Bulldogs, Indians, Cardinals, Cougars, Eagles, Pirates Claim Girls Basketball Victories

The two teams were tied at 18-18 after the opening quarter. Stacie Vonderheide led the Bulldogs with 10 of her team's 18 points while Nancy Ruholl added six.
BSE was led by Dayana Haslett with eight and Lexi Seabaugh with five.
The Bombers then started on a roll with a 24-17 second period to lead 42-35 at halftime. Danika Ramsey stepped in with eight points on two three-pointers and a regular basket and Seabaugh added six.
It was a parade to the free throw line for both teams in the second half.
St. Anthony connected on five of six in the third quarter with a 17-9 run to edge ahead 52-51. Ruholl connected on a three-pointer and two of two at the line while Ava Faber also scored five on a regular basket and a three-pointer.
The Bombers kept close with seven of 12 at the line as Day. Haslett scored on five of six.
But the Bulldogs went on a 28-16 final period to break the game open. Vonderheide broke loose with two baskets and was eight of eight at the line while Ruholl hit two three-pointers, a regular basket and a free throw and Adysen Rios hit a basket and was four of five at the line.
Vonderheide finished with 32 points for the Bulldogs on nine field goals and a perfect 14 of 14 at the line. She is the lone senior player who was honored Thursday evening. Ruholl added 25 points on eight field goals, four from three-point range and five of seven at the line. The Bulldogs hit 25 of 33 free throws.
BSE was led by Day. Haslett with four baskets, two of the three-point variety, and 12 of 14 at the line for 22 points. Also in double figures were Seabaugh with 14, Ramsey with 12 and Presley Williams with 10. The Bombers hit 24 of 30 free throws.
Between the two teams, 49 of 63 free throws were hit for 77.7 percent.
"We finished up conference play with a great battle with Brownstown," said St. Anthony Coach Aaron Rios. "Stacie led us with 32 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
"There was an awesome crowd that came out to celebrate the seniors last regular season game at the Enlow Center. The great news is we're hosting a regional and are the No. 1 seed in SubSectional A. We look forward to hosting the regional starting Monday, February 12.
"Sophomore Nancy Ruholl had a double-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and five steals. Junior Addie Nuxoll also had a great performance scoring ine points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She scored big buckets early in the second to keep the Sisterhood in the quarter."
St. Anthony finished NTC play with a 7-1 record and is 22-6 overall. The Bulldogs, ranked sixth in the Class 1A state poll, will be back in action Monday traveling to Tuscola to face the No. 8-ranked Warriors. Tuscola lost to Altamont during the regular season, 53-52.
St. Elmo/Brownstown captured the junior varsity victory with a 25-20 score. Ramsey led the way with nine points.

At Dieterich
Neoga took a three-point opening quarter lead then went on for a 49-37 victory over Dieterich as two National Trail Conference teams battled Thursday evening.
Haylee Campbell scored seven and Brynn Richards six as the Indians held a 17-14 first quarter lead. Addison Miller kept the Movin' Maroons close with eight points as she connected on two three-pointers and a regular basket.
Neoga moved its lead to 10 at halftime and pushed that, behind Richards seven points in the third quarter, to 46-27 going into the final quarter.
Dieterich had a 10-3 final period.
Richards finished with 19 points on eight field goals and three of four at the line. Campbell added 17 points and Atalie Osborn 12. Neoga improved to 16-12 on the season and returns to action Monday at Teutopolis.
Dieterich was led by Miller with 12 on five field goals, two of those three-pointers.
The Maroons were 43-13 winners in the junior varsity contest.
Miley Britton scored 14 and Kady Tegeler nine.
Neoga was led by Malory Henderson with seven.

At Louisville
North Clay (Louisville) got 20 points from Miah Ballard in a 51-39 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in National Trail Conference action Thursday.
Ballard and Alexis VanDyle scored six points each in the opening 16-6 quarter run. Ballard hit three baskets while VanDyke put in two three-pointers.
WSS had a 13-11 second period run behind a three-pointer and two of two at the free throw line for Ellie Wittenberg. The Hatchets were within eight at halftime.
Samantha Hayes got the Hatchets within a point as she hit four baskets and two of three at the line for 10 of her team's 11 points. The Hatchets were within 33-30 going into the final period.
But the Cardinals got back on track with an 18-9 final period on three-pointers by VanDyke and Sydney Kincaid and putting in 10 of 11 free throws. Ballard hit five of six while Ava Fleener put in three along with a basket and Matia Price hit two of two.
Ballard tallied 20 points on five field goals and 10 of 14 at the line. VanDyke added nine points on three trifectas.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by S. Hayes with 16 on seven field goals and two of three at the line.

South Central edged host Wayne City by a 50-48 tally on Thursday evening.
The Cougars edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead behind six points by Taegan Webster. Webster then had a nine point run in the second quarter and Kaitlyn Swift jumped in with two three-pointers and the Cougars led 29-17 at halftime.
Wayne City came back with a 15-10 third period run to pull within 39-33 and outscored South Central 16-11 in the final period but the Cougars held on for the victory.
Webster scored five in the final period on a three-pointer and regular basket and Lauren Johnson added five points as she hit a regular basket and a three-pointer and Percilla Reid put in a three-pointer.
Webster tallied 21 points on eight field goals, two of those from three-point range and three of four at the line. Ka. Swift added 13 points.

Newton had big scoring second and third quarters in downing Casey-Westfield, 47-25 Thursday evening.
The Eagles edged out to a 9-6 opening quarter lead then pushed that to 25-14 at halftime and had a 13-7 third quarter to lead 38-21.
Carasyn Martin led the way for Newton with 17 points on seven field goals and three of four at the line.
With the victory, the Eagles are now 17-10 on the season and are 5-2 in the Little Illini Conference which gives them a third place finish.
The Eagles will host Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville Monday during Senior Night festivities.

Cumberland whipped out to a 17-5 openig quarter lead and went on to easily handle Decatur LSA Unity Christian by a 51-18 tally Thursday.
The Pirates' Alysa Dittamore scored three baskets and two free throws for eight points in that quarter.
Katelyn Shoemaker took over in the second period with seven points and the lead went to 29-12.
Jade Carr took over in the third quarter with two three-pointers, a regular basket and a free throw for nine points.
Carr finished with 15 to lead the Pirates. She connected on five field goals, four of those from three-point range, and was one of three at the line. A. Dittamore scored 13 and K. Shoemaker 11.

Nokomis took the early lead and held on for a 56-43 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday evening.
Nokomis held a 17-12 first quarter tally and pushed that to 29-21 at halftime. Nokomis came back after halftime with an 11-5 run to lead 40-26.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher city had two players with 14 points. Macee Rodman hit three baskets, one a three-pointer and was sevne of 10 at the line while Ruby Stuckemeyer put in four baskets and was six of seven at the line.
Nokomis was a 29-25 winner in the junior varsity contest. CHBC was led by Averie Vaughn with 11 points and Haley Doty with eight.
