Teutopolis Only Area Eighth-Grade Boys Team To Advance To Sectional

Teutopolis was the lone area eighth-grade boys basketball team to advance to sectional action from the area Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes handed Jasper County a 53-39 loss and Coach Kent Niebrugge tallied his 500th victory in his 25 years as a coach.

Jasper County edged out to a 13-11 opening quarter lead but the Shoes put things together and moved into a 25-19 halftime lead. T-town scored 14 points in the second, third and four quarters for the winning margin.

Jake Probst lead the way to the win with 23 points while Eric Weidner also finished in double digits with 14.

Jasper County was led by Eli Wolf with 15 points while Mack Huber chipped in with 11. Jasper County finishes the season with a 19-5 record.

Teutopolis now advances to the Paris Mayo Sectional Monday for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Tuscola East Prairie. East Prairie defeated Paris Mayo, 43-36 and is now 23-2 on the season.

Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Effingham St. Anthony saw its season come to a close in a heartbreaking 35-34 loss to Assumption Central A&M Thursday.

Assumption Central A&M advances to the St. Anthony Sectional Monday and will meet Paris Crestwood at 6:30 p.m.
