Effingham Girls Beat Charleston, CHBC Downs Sandoval

The Hearts had five players score in that opening 16-7 quarter run. Averie Wolfe led the way with two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven while Alyssa Martin chipped in with a basket and a free throw for three and Bria Beals connected on a three-pointer.
But, after that first quarter charge, the Hearts slowed down and Charleston actually had a 9-8 scoring edge in the second period. Martin kept the Hearts rolling with a basket and three of four at the line for five points.
Charleston couldn't find the range in the third period, only connecting on a basket and a free throw while the Hearts pushed into a 41-19 lead. Sidney Donaldson tallied on three baskets and Bella Austin put in two three-pointers and Wolfe added a trfiecta.
EHS then went out with an 11-3 final quarter.
Three players finished in double figures for the Hearts. Martin and Wolfe scored 11 each while Austin added 10. Martin connected on three field goals and was five of six at the line while Wolfe put in four field goals, two from three-point range, and was one of nine at the line.
Effingham is now 24-4 on the season.
The Hearts honored their two seniors, Rylea Hodge and Olivia Moser.
Effingham claimed the junior varsity game, 49-10. The Hearts were led by Tessa Raddatz with 12 points. EHS sports a 14-3 record.
The Hearts will be back in Apollo Conference action Thursday at Mount Zion.

At Sandoval
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City improved to 15-11 on the season with a 57-46 non-conference victory over Sandoval Tuesday evening.
The Bobcats's Macee Rodman put on a show as the lone player in double figures. Rodman connected on 14 field goals, one a three-pointer, and was five of 10 at the line for 34 points.
Rodman and Haley Doty got the Bobcats rolling in the opening quarter. Doty, a freshman, hit for seven points while Rodman, a junior, connected on six.
Rodman put in one basket in the second quarter for eight at halftime. She then went on a second half roll, scoring seven in the third period and 19 in the final quarter.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City also claimed the junior varsity contest, 22-13. Laney Doty led with eight points.
