ALTAMONT -- Dieterich advanced to the championship game of the 88th National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Friday evening while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg moved into the consolation championship.

Dieterich trailed Altamont all the way until the final quarter when the Movin' Maroons mounted a furious rally to capture the 58-54 victory.

Altamont edged ahead in the opening quarter with an 11-9 lead as Kaidyn Miller put in three baskets for six points and Eli Miller hit a three-pointer.

The Indians pushed their lead to 27-21 at halftime.as the three K's got together for 14 of the 16 points. Kaden Davis and Kaidyn Miller hit a three-pointer and a regular basket for five each while Kade Milleville put in four points.

Lucas Westendorf had six points in the second period for Dieterich.

The lead went to 37-29 in the third quarter. Milleville hit a three-pointer and a free throw while K. Miller put in another three-pointer.

But the final quarter was all Dieterich. The Maroons' Westendorf broke loose and went on a run, connecting on three trifectas, three regular baskets and two of three at the line for 17 of his team's points. Tanner Will hit a three-pointer and was three of four at the line while Caleb Gephart hit four of four from the line and Landon Keck put in a basket and the Maroons pulled out the victory.

Westendorf finished with 10 field goals, four of those three-pointers, and was three of five at the line for 27. Gephart added 14. The Maroons connected on nine three-pointers and were 13 of 19 at the line.

Altamont was led by K. Miller with seven field goals, two of the three-point variety, and two of six at the line for 18. Milleville chipped in with 10. The Indians hit six three-pointers and were eight of 14 at the line.

Deterich advances to face St. Anthony for the championship while Altamont drops into the third place contest against St. Elmo/Brownstown.

In the first game of the evening, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed South Central, 44-30.

The Cougars took a 10-7 opening quarter lead as Jacob Smith went on a run, scoring three baskets and was three of three at the line for nine points.

South Central held a 23-20 halftime lead as Westin Neilson put in three trifectas for nine points.

But Windsor/Stew-Stras came back after halftime to move ahead 29-27 with a 12-4 run. Nathaniel Gracey put in four baskets for the Hatchets to tally eight points.

In the final quarter, the Hatchets kept the pressure on as Jackson Gurgel connected for eight points while Rylan Rincker hit a three-pointer and the Hatchets had a 27-7 second half for the victory.

Gurgel led the winners with 19 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of six at the line.

Nielson and J. Smith finished with nine points each. Nielson hit three trifectas and J. Smith had three regular field goals and three of three at the line.

Windsor/Stew-Stras advanced to the consolation championship game to face North Clay (Louisville) Saturday.

At Arthur

Cumberland handed Tri-County a 61-34 loss to win the consolation championship of the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament Friday.

The Pirates ran out to a 14-8 opening quarter lead and led 30-16 at halftime. Cumberland then had a 20-9 third quarter.

Three players hit double digits for the Pirates. Kelby Bierman led the way with six field goals and two free throws for 14. Blake McMcMechan and Zack Harmon added 10 each.

Okaw Valley won the championship of the tournament with a 50-45 victory over Arcola. Third place went to Sullivan over Argenta-Oreana 59-24. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement for fifth place, 60-48.

At Newton

Newton HIgh School saw its hopes of claiming the championship of the Little Illini Conference Boys Tournament go by the wayside Friday with a 47-39 loss to Richland County.

Richland County took a 15-7 opening quarter lead but the Eagles came back with a 9-6 second period to pull within 21-16 at halftime.

But Richland County kept the pressure on with a 26-23 second half for the 47-39 victory.

Newton was led by Caden Nichols with 13 points and Parker Wolf and Jacob Weber with 10 each. Nichols hit four baskets, one a three-pointer and was four of four at the line.

The Eagles couldn't shut down Richland County's Ian Winkler who finished with 31 points on 13 field goals and three of four at the line.

Lawrenceville won third place with a 58-44 victory over Casey-Westfield. The consolation championship went to Robinson over Mount Carmel 51-48. Marshall claimed seventh place by edging Paris 52-51.

 At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Breese Mater Dei and captured a 62-49 victory in Friday action.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 16-15 opening quarter lead then pushed that to 31-23 at halftime. T-town had a 31-26 second half.

Three players hit double digits for the Shoes. Garrett Gaddis led the way with 13 points on four field goals and five of seven at the line. Joey Niebrugge and Tyler Pruemer added 10 each.

Gaddis, J. Niebrugge and Pruemer led the way with six rebounds each. J. Niebrugge and Pruemer had six assists each.

In the junior varsity contest, T-town was a 60-41 winner. The Shoes led 27-15 at halftime and never looked back.

Gavin Addis tallied 18 points while Isaac McWhorter added 13 and Landyn Thoele 12.
