St. Anthony, BSE Capture Girls Basketball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony continued to take care of business with a 69-40 victory over South Central in girls high school basketball action Wednesday evening. The game was a makeup from Monday's canceled contest.

 

Stacie Vonderheide got the Bulldogs off in the right direction in the opening quarter, scoring 13 of her team's 20 points. Vonderheide connected on six baskets and a free throw. The Bulldogs held a 20-8 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 43-26 at halftime.

Vonderheide continued on with 15  more points in the second quarter run, connecting on seven field goals and one of one at the line.

The high-scoring Vonderheide finished with 38 points on 18 field goals and two of fhree at the line. Nancy Ruholl chipped in with nine.

South Central was led by Taegan Webster with 13 points on four field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of nine at the line. Brooke Cowger added 10 points.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo took charge in the second half with a 48-19 run and finished out with an 81-50 victory over North Clay (Louisville) Wednesday evening.

BSE edged out to a 22-17 opening quarter lead behind eight points from Lexi Seabaugh and seven from Dayana Haslett.

Alexis VanDyke kept the Cardinals close by hitting three trifectas for nine while Miah Ballard added seven points.

North Clay then had a 14-11 second period edge as VanDyke hit her fourth three-pointer and Ballard added on six more points.

Madi Miller scored seven points for BSE.

BSE then got on a scoring spree with a 25-12 run. Danika Ramsey hit two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while Addie Sasse and Seabaugh tallied six each.

The Bombers then had a 23-7 final period to finish out with the 31-point winning margin.

Five players hit double digits for the winners. Seabaugh led the way with seven field goals and four of five at the line for 18. Miller chipped in with 14, Ramsey and Day. Haslett 13 each and Presley Williams with 10.

North Clay was led by Ballard with 15 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, while VanDyke added 12 on four three-pointers and Matia Price had 10. The Cardinals dropped to 8-14 on the season.
