Cumberland To Play For LPC Consy Title, LPC Tourney Scores

The Pirates edged out to a 9-5 opening quarter lead before going on a 24-4 second period roll. Kelby Bierman, who didn't score in the opening quarter, put in four baskets and three of five free throws for nine points in the second quarter and the Pirates led 33-9 at halftime.
Cumberland came out with a 24-10 third period as Kelby Bierman went on a tear with three baskets and three of four at the line for nine points. He finished out with five field goals for 10 points in the final quarter and tallied 21 as the lone player in double figures in the contest. Blake McMechan chipped in with nine.
In other games Wednesday, Tri-County edged Heritage 53-50, Cerro Gordo-Bement won over Blue Ridge 55-47 and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond downed Villa Grove 56-50.
The finals are set for Friday. Arcola meets Okaw Valley at 8 p.m. for the championship. Argenta-Oreana and Sullivan will square off at 6:30 for third place.
Cumberland and Tri-County open the evening at 5 in the second gym in the consolation championship. The seventh-place game at 5 will be in the high school gym and features Cerro Gordo/Bement against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond.

At Newton
Two games were contested at the Little Illini Conference Tournament Wednesday evening.
Mount Carmel handed Paris a 59-49 loss in the opening contest.
In the second game, Robinson won over Marshall, 54-42.
Today's games include Paris against Marshall at 6 p.m. for seventh place and Mount Carmel meeting Robinson at 7:30 for fifth place.
The tournament comes to a close Friday evening. Newton will meet Richland County at 7:30 for the championship. The third place game features Casey-Westfield against Lawrenceville at 6.
