SIGEL -- Sigel St. Michael and Newton St. Thomas advanced in the Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Boys Basketball Regional with victories Tuesday evening.

The Sharpshooters defeated Mattoon St. John's, 31-24.

Newton St. Thomas edged Effingham Sacred Heart, 45-43.

St. Michael and St. Thomas will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

 

Class 7-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

North Clay (Louisville) advanced to the title contest in the Casey-Westfield Regional Tuesday.

North Clay won over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 33-22.

In the opening game of the evening, Paris Crestwood trounced Casey-Westfield, 51-17.

North Clay and Paris Crestwood square off for the regional championship today at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

St. Anthony and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City were winners in the Bullpups regional Tuesday evening.

St. Anthony defeated Stewardson-Strasburg, 54-14 in the opening contest.

The Bullpups held Stew-Stras scoreless while taking a 10-0 opening quarter lead. Blake Verdeyen tallied three baskets for six points.

In the second quarter, Verdeyen hit three of four free throws and two baskets for eight of the team's 12 points as the Bullpups led 22-3.

Charlie Bierman and Charlie Hoene connected on a three-pointer and a regular basket each in the third quarter for five points and the Bullpups led 44-9.

Verdeyen finished with 18 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and five of six at the line. Also in double figures was Sebastian Looman with 12 points.

Stew-Stras was led by Weston Spannagel with three points.

The second game went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over South Central, 31-26.

The two winners meet today at 6 p.m. for the regional championshp.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis will be playing for the championship in its own regional after a victory Tuesday.

T-town defeated Jasper County, 55-27 The Wooden Shoes swept out to a 22-11 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 38-17 at halftime.

Three players finished in double figures for the Shoes. Sam Probst led the way with 12 while Grant Tegeler added 11 and Kale Goeckner finished with 10.

Jasper County was led by Brenden Emmerich with nine and Cambell Ulm with eight.

Jasper County's seventh-grade squad finished with a 13-10 record.

In the second game of the evening, Robinson Nuttall won over Lawrenceville Parkview, 36-21.

T-town and Robinson will now square off tonight at 6 for the regional championship.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Mount Zion and Mattoon will meet for the championship of this regional after winning Tuesday evening.

Mount Zion defeated Charleston, 57-23 while Mattoon tallied a 50-28 win over Taylorville.

Mount Zion will meet Mattoon at 6 p.m. today for the championship.
