EHS Falls Twice More At Salem, Newton Wins At LIC Tourney, C'land Falls At LPC

The Hearts lost to Champaign Central, 82-36.
Central rained down threes, hitting 16 in the contest. Central raced out to a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 38-16 at halftime.
Central had a 29-9 third quarter run.
Effingham was led by Hayden Wendling with 13 points on five field goals and three of seven at the line and Nolan Fearday with three field goals and two of three at the ilne for 10 points.
The Hearts then faced Charleston and fell 55-41. The Trojans edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead. Effingham kept close behind a three-pointer by KJ Kelams.
Charleston then held a 23-17 halftime lead.
Effingham came back with a 16-12 third period run to pull within 35-33 going into the final quarter. But Charleston went on a 20-8 final period run.
Rylan Pals led the way for the Hearts with 10 points on three field goals and two of two at the line. He hit two three-pointers. KJ Kellams added nine points.

Little Illini Conference Tournament
Four games were contested as the Little Illini Conference Tournament opened at Newton High School Saturday.
In the opener, Richland County defeated Paris 56-20. Casey-Westfield then downed Mount Carmel 47-43 and Lawrenceville was a 61-43 winner over Robinson.
In the final game of the day, Newton handed Marshall a 63-41 loss. The Eagles swept out to a 15-6 opening quarter lead and led 31-22 at halftime.
The Eagles then had a 32-19 second half.
Three players hit double figures for Newton. Caden Nichols led the way with 19 points on seven field goals, five of those from three-point range. Parker Wolf added 11 and Dylan Gier finished with 10.
Newton improved to 15-7 on the season.
Tonight's games featuring Paris agaimst Mount Carmel at 6 and Robinson taking on Marshall at 7:30 have been postponed to Wednesday.
Tuesday's games feature Richland County against Casey-Westfield at 6 and Newton facing Lawrenceville at 7:30.

At Cerro Gordo
Cerro Gordo-Bement edged Cumberland 52-50 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament Friday.
CGB edged out to a 14-13 opening quarter lead. Kade McMechan hit for five points for the Pirates while Kaleb Bierman had four.
CBG then had an 11-4 run to lead 25-17 at halftime.
Cerro Gordo/Bement then had a 15-11 third period to lead 40-28.
But here came Cumberland. The Pirates battled back with a 22-12 final quarter only to fall two points short.
McMechan led the way for the Pirates with 13 points on three trifectas and four of eight at the line while Cameron Roedl chipped in with 11.
