Dieterich Wins NTC Eighth-Grade Tourney; St. A Falls At Greenville, Jasper Co., T-town Win Regular Season Games

ST. ELMO -- Dieterich claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

Dieterich was a 42-14 winner over Neoga for the title.

The third place game went to Stewardson-Strasburg over North Clay (Louisville), 40-36.

Stew-Stras took an 11-4 opening quarter lead but North Clay pulled within one at halftime, 15-14.

Stew-Stras then had a 15-4 third quarter and had to hold off North Clay in the final period for the victory.

Parker Duncan was the lone player for Stew-Stras in double figures with 13. Eli Jones chipped in with nine. Stew-Stras is now 14-8 on the season.

North Clay was led by Adair with 13 points and Lewis with nine.

The consolation championship went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over Sigel St. Michael, 41-35.

At Greenville

 Effingham St. Anthony fell to Triad by a 36-32 count at the 75th Annual James Burke Memorial Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

Triad edged out to a 3-2 low-scoring opening quarter. St. Anthony then moved ahead 12-11 at halftime as Conner Storm scored six points.

The two teams played to a 9-9 third quarter tie. Triad then went on a 16-11 final quarter run to pull out the 36-32 victory. Thompson went on a tear for the winners, nailing a regular basket, three trifectas and two of two at the line for 13 of his team's 16 points. He finished with 18.

St. Anthony wsa led by C. Storm with nine and Camden Bloemer with eight.

The loss drops St. Anthony into the third place game against Greenville at 6 p.m. today.

It could have been an all-Effingham championship game but now Effingham will face Triad at 7 p.m. today for the title.

The consolation championship features Aviston against Salem at 5.

At Hutsonville

Jasper County picked up two victories over Palestine/Hutsonville in Thursday evening action.

Jasper County was a 40-37 winner in the seventh-grade matchup. Jasper County was led by Kendall Probst with 10 points and Jacob Ferguson with eight. Hank Huber was named the top rebounder and Brenden Emmerich the top defender.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County won 54-37. Jasper County ran out to a 25-1 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Ian Kessler scored 13 for the winners while Eli Wolf chipped in with 11. Chance Mulvey was the top defender and Mack Huber the top rebounder.

Jasper County improved to 12-9 in the seventh-grade and 17-4 in eighth-grade play.

At Paris

Teutopolis pounded Paris Mayo in both junior high games Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the seventh-grade contest, 48-20. T-town held a 26-12 halftime lead and had a 20-4 third quarter surge.

Sam Probst and Mark Probst scored 11 points each for the winners while Kale Goeckner added nine.

In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 58-15 winner. The Shoes held a 36-13 halftime lead then had a 14-0 third quarter.

Jake Probst was the leader in scoring with 20 points while Eric Weidner added 12.
