Mustangs Advance To Championship, Area Junior High Boys Roundup

The Mustangs edged out to an 8-3 opening quarter lead then went on a 17-6 second period surge to lead 25-9 at halftime.
Effingham tallied a 28-18 second half. Jenner Pals led off with four points in the opening quarter then opened up with 10 in the second period and seven in the third quarter. He finshed with 26 to lead the Mustangs. Pals connected on 11 field goals, three of those trifectas, and was one of two at the line. Carson Fox and Maxwell Love scored six each.
In the second contest of the evening, Salem was a 28-15 winner over Staunton.
Tonight's games feature Hillsboro against Aviston at 6 p.m. in consolation bracket play and Effingham St. Anthony taking on Triad at 7 in the winner bracket.
Effingham (17-5) advanced to the championship game and could meet Effingham St. Anthony if the Bullpups claim a win tonight. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday with the third place game at 6 p.m. and the consolation championship at 5.

Jasper County split victories with Paris Mayo in Wednesday evening action.
Paris Mayo claimed the seventh-grade game, 51-38. Mayo edged out to a 23-22 halftime lead and led 31-29 going into the final quarter. Mayo then broke loose with a 20-9 run.
Chase Kistner led Jasper County with 11 while Jacob Ferguson and Cambell Ulm added 10 each.
The top defender was Kistner. Jasper County dropped to 11-9.
In the eighth-grade matchup, Jasper County won 43-35. Jasper County held a 16-14 halftime lead then had a 16-9 third quarter run that gave the squad the victory.
Maddox Horner scored 10 points and was the top defender. Chance Mulvey added nine points. Mack Huber was the top rebounder. Jasper County improved to 16-4.
Jasper County is back in action tonight at Hutsonville.

At Ramsey
Altamont and Ramsey each picked up a win during junior high boys basketball action Wednesday evening.
Ramsey was a 42-17 winner in the seventh-grade contest. Ramsey held a 27-14 halftime lead and had a 13-0 third quarter.
Altamont was led by Jeremy Burns and Xavier Logue with five points each.
Altamont then edged Ramsey 35-32 in the eighth-grade contest.
Altamont stepped out to a 10-2 opening quarter lead but did not score in the second period as Ramsey came back to tie the score at halftime 10-10.
Altamont then edged ahead 23-22 going into the final quarter and had a 12-10 run.
Cage led the way for Altamont with 21 points on 10 field goals and one of five at the line. He scored eight points in the third quarter and finished with seven in the final period.
