EHS Wins At Vandalia, T-town At Highland, Newton at LIC Tourneys

The Hearts had two big scoring quarters in the second and third to put the contest away. EHS took a 14-5 opening quarter lead as Sidney Donaldson scored five points and the Hearts hit three trifectas in the quarter. Donaldson, Bria Beals and Alyssa Martin hit one each.
Doanldson and Bella Austin tallied eight points each in the second quarter run as the Hearts went on a 23-6 tear to lead 37-11 at halftime. They both hit a three-pointer, two regular field goals and a free throw.
Donaldson continued on in the third quarter with 11 points on four baskets and three of three at the line as the Hearts had a 22-15 run to lead 59-26.
Donaldson finished with 24 points on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers, and four of five at the line.
Averie Wolfe scored nine while Martin, Austin and Beals tallied eight each. Austin needs just four more points to reach 1,000 in her career.
EHS improved to 19-4 on the seaeson.
Greenville was a 47-43 winner in overtime against Centralia in the second game of the evening.
Effingham will now face Greenville at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the championship. Salem will meet Centralia at 1 p.m. for third place.
The tournament continues tonight as Salem Junior Varsity meets Mascoutah at 6 followed by Wesclin against Vandalia at 7:30. The losers will meet for seventh place at 10 a.m. while the winners square off for fifth place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

At Highland
Teutopolis moved into the consolation championship game of the 37th Annual Highland Tournament with a 52-33 win over Waterloo Wednesday evening.
Chloe Probst got the Wooden Shoes off in the right direction, scoring seven points in the opening quarter 14-9 run. Probst hit two baskets and was three of three at the line. Anan Probst added a three-pointer.
T-town held a 28-20 halftime lead as C. Probst continued on, scoring two baskets and two free throws for six in the second period.
C. Probst and A. Probst finished with 15 points each. C. Probst hit four field goals and was seven of nine at the line while A. Probst connected on seven field goals, one a three-pointer.
C. Probst also led the team in rebounds with eight and steals with two. Malea Helmink and Kelsey Niemerg had five rebounds each as the team pulled down a total of 17 boards.
In other games, Bethalto Civic Memorial edged Triad, 47-42 while Alton downed Nashville, 55-42.
In tonight's games, Okawville meets O'Fallon at 5 p.m. while Taylorville takes on Highland at 6:30. The winners of those two games will meet for fifth place Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Breese Mater Dei and Breese Central will meet at 8 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game against Alton at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The loser will drop into the third place game against Nashville at 1 p.m. Saturday.

At Lawrenceville
Newton captured the consolation championship with a 46-19 win over Casey-Westfield in the Little Illini Conference Tournament Wednesday.
The Eagles ran out to a 16-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one. Newton led 30-5 at halftime and 42-11 going into the final quarter.
Camryn Martin led the way for Newton with 17 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and six of six at the line. Lilly Kessler added eight points.
Kessler led the team in rebounds with eight while C. Martin had five.
Newton improves to 14-10 on the season and will be back in action Monday traveling to Marshall.
In the other game Wednesday, Marshall won over Lawrenceville 45-34 to finish seventh.
In tonight's contests, Richland County takes on Paris at 6 for third place while Mount Carmel and Robinson meet for the championship at 7:30.
