Dieterich, Neoga Move Into NTC Eighth-Grade Title Game

ST. ELMO -- Dieterich and Neoga moved into the championship game of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament after picking up victories Tuesday evening.

Dieterich edged out to a 6-4 opening quarter lead on North Clay behind three-pointers by Bryce Bohnhoff and Alex Schottman.

Dieterich then had a two-point lead in the second quarter to push into a 15-11 halftime lead. Bohnhoff put in another three-pointer and a regular basket while Traden Kessler had a three-pointer.

North Clay came back with a 12-9 third period to move within 24-23 then finished the fourth quarter with a 6-5 edge to tie the score at 29-29, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Dieterich came back on three baskets by Mason Niemerg, B. Schottman and Blake Westendorf to pull out the 35-31 victory.

Bohnhoff finished as the lone Dieterich player in double figures with 17 on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers, and one of five at the line.

North Clay was led by Probst with 21 points on nine field goals and two of three at the line.

In the second game, Neoga claimed a 37-31 victory over Stewardson-Strasburg.

Dieterich and Neoga will meet for the championship Thursday at 8 p.m. North Clay and Stewardson-Strasburg will play for third place at 6:45. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City meets Sigel St. Michael at 5:30 for the consolation championship.

At Newton

Teutopolis and Newton St. Thomas split seventh- and eighth-grade B contests Tuesday evening.

T-town was a 30-20 winner in the seventh-grade game. The Wooden Shoes took a 10-5 opening quarter lead and had a 12-8 third quarter for the win.

Anthony Mette led the way with 10 points for the Shoes.

St. Thomas was led by Earnest with nine points.

In eighth-grade action, St. Thomas claimed a 33-27 win. St. Thomas stepped out to a 13-0 opening quarrter lead and held off T-town in the second half.

Fulton scored 13 for the winners.

T-town was led by Keegan Swingler with seven.
