Dieterich Beats EHS, St. A, WSS, SEB, C'land, Newton Win In Boys Basketball

Caleb Gephart got the Maroons off in the right direction, hitting two three-pointers, a regular basket and a free throw for nine points while Landen Keck added seven points and Tanner Will and Lucas Westendorf knocked in a three-pointer each.
Effingham came back with a slight 14-13 second period to trail 37-29 at halftime. KJ Kellams had two three-pointers while Cannon Bockhorn hit from beyond the arc.
The Hearts played Dieterich even in the third period as both teams tallied 20 each but the Maroons still held a 57-49 lead.
Dieterich then got back on track with a 22-13 final period run.
Westendorf and Keck provided the one-two scoring punch for the Maroons with 24 and 23 points respectively. Westendorf hit 10 field goals, three of those from three-point range, and was one of one at the line. Keck hit five field goals, one three-pointer and was a perfect 12 of 12 at the line.
Also in double figures was Gephart with 17.
The Maroons were perfect at the free throw line, hitting 21 of 21.
Effingham was led by Bockhorn with 21 points on seven field goals, four three-pointers, and three of three at the line. Kellams added 17 points.
"We lost to a great team," said EHS Coach Obie Farmer. "We trailed the whole time but battled back to within six a few times. We couldn't get over the hump. Bockhorn and Kellams had great games for us. Our junior varsity dominated again."

At St. Anthony
Flora came calling and Effingham St. Anthony had a big scoring third quarter to salt the game away with a 64-45 victory Tuesday.
Flora held a slight 14-13 opening quarter lead but the Bulldogs came back with a 12-8 second period to lead 25-22 at halftime.
St. Anthony then got on a roll with a 20-12 third quarter as Brock Fearday connected for 10 points on four field goals and a free throw.
Fearday kept on a roll in the final period with six more points and Collin Westendorf added six for the final 64-45 victory.
B. Fearday finished with 10 field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was three of three at the line for 25 points. Westendorf tallied 16 and Ryan Schmidt 11.
The Bulldogs hit 11 of 11 from the free throw line.
St. Anthony's junior varsity claimed a 61-38 victory.
The Bulldogs were led by Henry Brent with 14 points and Will Fearday with 13. Aiden Laurtizen added nine and Keenan Griffith and Maddox Wiedman tallied eight each.

At Windsor
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took on North Clay (Louisville) as two National Trail Conference teams squared off, and was a 74-54 winner.
The Hatchets ran out to a 27-11 opening quarter lead and led 49-28 at halftime.
Connor Manhart had a big game, scoring 30 points. He connected on 12 field goals with six of those from three-point range.
Also in double figures were Jackson Gurgel with 18 and Nathaniel Gracey with 15.
North Clay had four players finish in double figures. Gavin Hosselton led with 14 points on seven field goals. Ethan Kuenstler added 12 and Cody Zimdars and Jesse Weidner had 11 each.
North Clay dropped to 1-4 in the conference, 5-12 overall.
Windsor/Stew-Stras is 2-3 in the conference, 10-11 overall.
North Clay won the junior varsity game, 47-34.

At Martinsville
St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed Martinsville 16-9 after the opening quarter but came back with a second period run to lead 30-26 at halftime and went on for a 63-55 non-conference victory Tuesday.
SEB finished with a 33-29 second half.
Three players scored in double digits for the winners. Adam Atwood led the way with 28 points on nine of 13 from the field and eight of 10 at the line. He hit two three-pointers.
Cade Schaub added 15 points while Josiah Maxey finished with 11.
Atwood also led in rebounds with 10 while Lowell Wilhour had five. Schaub, Wilhour and Collin Maxey had three steals each as SEB finished with 13 steals in the contest. C. Maxey had one blocked shot.
St. Elmo/Brownstown improved to 16-3 on the season and is back in action Friday against Mulberry Grove.

Shelbyville played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and claimed a 75-57 non-conference victory Tuesday evening.
The two teams played to a 13-13 opening quarter tie before Shelbyville went on a 24-9 second period run and that was the game.
Chase Wells led the way for Shelbyville with 23 points while Brody Boehm added 22 and Jackson Jokisch 13.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Kaidyn Calame with 15, Clayton Wocjik with 14 and AJ Radloff with 12

Cumberland stepped out to the early lead and never looked back in a 62-32 victory over Heritage Tuesday evening.
The Pirates had a 16-7 opening quarter run as Kaleb Bierman scored six and Blake McMechan and Kelby Bierman added five each.
The lead went to 33-19 at halftime. Isaac Venatta took over the scoring duties in the second period with eight of the team's 17 points. Cameron Roedl added seven.
McMechan finished with 14 points on six field goals, two from three-point range. Roedl added 12, Ke. Bierman 11 and Vanetta 10.

The Eagles then had an 18-8 third quarter run for a 53-42 win over Mount Carmel.
Parker Wolf led the Eagles with 16 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer and five of eight at the line. He pulled down six rebounds. Also in double figures was Caden Nichols with 15 points. Dylan Gier led in rebounding with nine.
Newton is now 14-7 on the season.
