Four players scored in double figures as Effingham St. Anthony played host to Breese Mater Dei Friday evening and the Bulldogs came out a 78-45 victor in a game heard on 979 XFM

Ryan Schmidt finished with 20 points while Brock Fearday added 18, Collin Westendorf 12 and Nick Ruholl 11 as the Bulldogs took the win easily.

St. Anthony ran out to a 19-2 opening quarter lead behind nine points by Schmidt on two three-pointers, a two-pointer and a free throw. The lead went to 40-16 at halftime as Schmidt knocked in two more three-pointers, B. Fearday added seven and Ruholl hit two three-pointers.

The two teams played to a 22-22 third quarter before St. Anthony finished out strong with a 16-7 final period.

Schmidt hit seven field goals, four of those three-pointers and was two of two at the line.

Brady Hatton had six rebounds and four assists while Sam Link had four assists. B. Fearday also pulled down six rebounds while Schmidt had five.

St. Anthony finished with 13 of 18 free throws for 72.2 percent and were 58.3 percent from the field.

In the junior varsity contest, Breese Mater Dei edged St. Anthony, 37-34. The Bulldogs were led by Henry Brent with 10 and Aiden Lauritzen with nine.

At Louisville

Atlamont took the early lead and never looked back in a 60-39 win over North Clay (Louisville) as two National Trail Conference teams met Friday evening.

The Indians' Dillan Elam nailed three trifectas in the opening quarter and Altamont ran out to a 23-7 opening quarter lead. North Clay had only one basket as Carder Walden hit. The rest of the score came from the free throw line.

North Clay had an even worse quarter in the second, hitting only a basket and a free throw while Altamont went into a 45-10 halftime lead.

Kaidyn Miller was the catalyst in the second quarter, scoring four regular baskets and a three-pointer for 11 of his team's 22 points.

North Clay came back wih a 29-15 second half. Ethan Kuenstler went on a third quarter tear with 11 of his team's points.

Altamont was led by K. Miller with 21 points on nine field goals and two of two at the line. Also in double figures was Elam with four three-pointers for 12. Alec Jahraus was on the verge of double figures with nine. The Indians are now 3-0 in the National Trail Conference, 12-4 overall.

The Cardinals were led by Kuenstler with 13 on five field goals and one of three at the line. North Clay dropped to 1-3 in the NTC, 5-10 overall.

At Dieterich

Dieterich edged out to a 12-8 opening quarter lead and went on to hand South Central a 54-38 loss in National Trail Conference action Friday evening.

The Movin' Maroons' Caleb Gephart scored 10 of his team's opening quarter 12-8 run. Gephart connected on two three-pointers and two regular basktes.

Dieterich then had a 12-4 second period run to lead 24-12 at halftime. Luke Wente scored six of his team's points.

Gephart then went on another tear, scoring nine points in the third quarter 16-11 run as Dieterich led 40-23. He scored three baskets and was three of three at the line.

Gephart finished with 27 points on 11 field goals and three of three at the line. He was the lone Dieterich player in double figures.

South Central was led by Max Magnus with 12 points on five baskets, two of those three-pointers, and Westin Neilson with 11.

 At Ramsey

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took on Ramsey in a non-conference matchup Friday evening and was a 72-44 winner.

The Hatchets took a 19-11 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 40-23 at halftime. They had a 32-21 second half.

Jackson Gurgel connected on four field goals, two from three-point range, and was a perfect six of six at the line for 16 points.

Also in double figures were Nathaniel Gracey with 14 and Connor Manhart with 12.

Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 9-11 on the season while Ramsey dropped to 3-16.

The Hatchets also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 60-29.

Windsor/Stew-Stras is back in action Tuesday hosting North Clay.

At Odin

St. Elmo/Brownstown put together a 31-27 opening half and went on for a 63-52 victory over Patoka/Odin Friday evening.

SEB went on a 15-12 opening quarter lead and had a slight 16-15 second period. SEB then had a 32-25 second half for the winning margin.

Four players hit double digits for the winners. Alex Atwood led the way with 20 points hitting seven of nine from the field and six of 12 at the line. He also finished with five rebounds.

Josiah Maxey tallied 14 and had five rebounds and four steals while Collin Maxey scored 12 points and had six rebounds.

St. Elmo/Brownstown is now 15-3 on the season and returns to action Tuesday at Martinsville.

At Newton

Lawrenceville took the early lead and went on for a 63-49 victory over Newton Friday evening.

The Indians held an 18-13 opening quarter lead and then had an 18-4 second period run to lead 36-17 at halftime.

Although the Eagles came back with a 32-27 second half, they couldn't overtime that second quarter.

Caden Nichols led three players in double figures for Newton with 17 on five three-pointers and two of two at the line. Parker Wolf added 15 and Dylan Gier 11.

Newton dropped to 2-1 in the Little Illini Conference, 13-7 overall. The Eagles return to action Tuesday against Mount Carmel.

Blue Ridge played host to Cumberland and claimed a 57-45 victory Friday evening.

Blue Ridge edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead and led 28-25 at halftime.

Blue Ridge's Colin Michels went on a run in the third quarter with nine points and the squad moved into a 44-31 lead.

Cumberland had only one player in double figures. Blake McMechan led his team with 12 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line.

Michaels finished with 22 points to lead Blue Ridge while Wyatt Pearl had 11 and Isaac Price 10.

Saturday Games

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Tuscola as the Wooden Shoes celebrated 100 years of boys basketball Saturday. Unfortunately for the Shoes, Tuscola had other ideas and claimed a 59-52 victory. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3

The Warriors took a 17-11 opening quarter lead as Kam Sweetnam connected on two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight in the quarter.

But the Wooden Shoes fought back with a 17-9 second period to lead 28-26 at halftime. The scoring was spread across five players for the Shoes. Austin Bloemer led the way with six points.

But Tuscola came back with a 17-14 run to edge ahead 43-42 going into the final quarter. The Warriors then put the game in the win column with a 16-10 final period run.

T-town was led by Garrett Gaddis with 14 points on four field goals, two of those three-pointers. Alex Kremer chipped in with 11.

Tyler Pruemer pulled down nine rebounds and Joey Niebrugge had seven.

Tuscola improved to 16-2 on the season while Teutopolis dropped to 12-6.

The first game for the Wooden Shoes was played in 1924 thus the 100 years celebration. They were dubbed the Wooden Shoes in 1936 with prior teams were known as the Merchants, the Dutchman and the Griffin-men.

The Shoes have had nine coaches in the 100 years and have a combined coaching record of 1,971 wins and 756 losses which equals a .72 winning percentage, the sixth highest total in the state of Illinois regardless of class size. The Shoes have won 38 regional championships, 16 sectional titles, eight super-sectionals and had four state placements. They were state champions in 1986, took second in 2000 and third place finishes in 2007 and 2023.
