Effingham Sacred Heart and Effingham both picked up a victory each during junior high boys basketball Tuesday evening.

The Shamrocks claimed the seventh-grade contest, 41-33.

Effingham held an 11-7 opening quarter lead but Sacred Heart came back with a 14-6 second quarter to lead 21-17 at halftime.

The Mustangs had a 13-10 third period to pull within 31-30 going into the final quarter, but the Shamrocks came back with a 10-3 run for the win.

Gabe Traub tallied 25 to lead Sacred Heart.

Effingham was led by Kaiden Rohr with 10.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham ripped out to a 19-4 opening quarter lead and went on for a 60-25 win over Sacred Heart.

The Mustangs were led by Jenner Pals with 10 points in the opening quarter and 21 for the game. He hit nine field goals, two from three-point land, and one of one at the line. Carson Fox and Daegan Mooney had eight points each. The Mustangs are now 14-5 on the season.

Sacred Heart was led by Gabe Traub with nine points.

At Dieterich

Dieterich and St. Elmo/Brownstown split victories in junior high action Tuesday.

St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Dieterich, 20-19 in the seventh-grade game.

Both teams scored six points in the opening quarter. SEB moved ahead 14-9 at halftime then had a slight 4-3 tally in the third period. Dieterich came back with a 7-2 final quarter only to all short.

SEB was led by Stufflebean with 14 points.

Dieterich was led by Goeckner with 10.

In the eighth-grade game, Dieterich ran out to a 14-6 opening quarter lead and led 27-10 at halftime. 

Dieterich was led by Blake Westendorf with 18 points on eight field goals and two of four at the line.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Wehrle with six.

At Casey

Jasper County won over Cumberland, 37-26 in the LEIC Tournament Tuesday evening.

Jasper County edged out to an 11-6 opening quarter lead and led 23-12 at halftime.

Greyson Lingafelter led the way in the victory with 18 points. Top defender was Maddox Horner.

Gavin Whitaker led Cumberland with 10 points.

Jasper County is now 15-2 on the season.
