Effingham St. Anthony's Stacie Vonderheide scored her 1,000th career point for the Bulldogs in a 78-35 drubbing of Salem Monday evening at the Enlow Center.

Vonderheide went on an opening quarter roll with 17 points and was well on her way. She connected on seven baskets and hit three from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs whipped out to a 32-9 first period lead. Nancy Ruholl chipped in with eight points.

In the second period, the Bulldogs had a 21-14 run to lead 53-23 at halftime. Vonderheide added one basket. She needed 26 points entering the contest.

She hit the 1,000th point goall in the third quarter when she connected at the 2:49 mark on a putback and her fourth basket of the quarter. She finished with 10 in the period and added on six more in the final quarter to tally 35.

Vonderheide hit 16 field goals and was three of four at the line. She also had 11 rebounds, nine assists and five steals. She was just one assist shy of having her third triple-double this season.

"It was an awesome night at the Enlow Center for Stacie, her family, our fans, our school and for the sisterhood program," said St. Anthony Coach Aaron Rios. "Nancy Ruholl also had an excellent double-double performance. She finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Addy Nuxoll was just two rebounds away from having a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Adysen Rios added eight points, four rebounds, three steals and five assists."

The Bulldogs will tip it up once again Thursday at Neoga.

At Marshall

Altamont High School continued to roll along with a 68-41 non-conference win over Marshall Monday evening.

Marshall actually took a 12-10 opening quarter lead but the Indians got control in the second quarter with a 24-13 run. Kaylee Lurkins hit four baskets and was two of three at the line for 10 points while Grace Nelson tallied three baskets and two of four at the line for eight. Peyton Osteen chipped in with six points.

Altamont held a 34-25 halftime lead. Nelson then went on a tear, scoring five baskets and six free throws for 16 points in the quarter. Osteen added a three-pointer and the Indians led 60-33.

Nelson finished with 31 points on 11 field goals, one a three-pointer, and was eight of 10 at the line. Lurkins chipped in with 16 points and P. Osteen added nine.

Altamont's junior varsity also won, 36-24.

Neoga stepped out to a 19-4 opening quarter lead and went on for a 61-31 non-conference victory over Pana Monday.

The Indians held a 38-18 halftime lead.

Haylee Campbell led the way for the winners with 24 points on 10 field goals and four of four at the free throw line. Brynn Richards added 19 points and Allison Sampson tallied 12.

Neoga improves to 13-6 on the season and returns to action Thursday hosting Effingham St. Anthony.

At Windsor

Ella Kinkelaar and Kendra Hayes provided the one-two scoring punch for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg as the Hatchets downed Dieterich, 49-37 in a National Trail Conference matchup.

WSS edged out to a 15-14 opening quarter lead as Ellie Wittenberg connected on two three-pointers and K. Hayes added five points.

Kinkelaar did not score in the opening quarter but came roaring back with two baskets and three free throws for eight of the Hatchets 14 points for a 29-17 halftime lead.

Dieterich had a 14-10 third quarter run to pull within 39-31 going into the final period. Estella Meinhart put in six points while Kady Tegeler added five.

But Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with a 10-6 final period for the winning margin.

Kinkelaar and K. Hayes tallied 14 points each. Kinkelaar hit four field goals, one from three-point range, and was five of six at the line. Hayes hit four baskets, one a three-pointer, and was five of five at the line.

Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 10-9 on the season.

Dieterich won the junior varsity contest 29-21. Callie Faller led the way for the Maroons with 14 points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Claire Holland with seven.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo played host to Wayne City in non-conference action and pounded out a 64-25 victory Monday evening.

BSE ripped out to a 29-2 opening quarter lead and that was the game. Dayana Haslett connected on five baskets in the quarter for 11 points while Lexie Seabaugh added eight points and Presley Williams six.

Haslett kept on the scoring binge with 11 points in the second period as BSE led 46-10.

Haslett finished with 22 points, all scored in the opening half. She hit 10 field goals, two from three-point range.

Seabaugh chipped in with 13.

In junior varsity play, BSE fell to Effingham, 32-27. Wayne City did not have enough players for a junior varsity contest.

Effingham was led by Nelia Wendling with 12 points.

BSE was led by Madi Miller with 15.

South Central tallied an easy non-conference victory over Vandalia Monday evening, 63-37.

The Cougars stepped out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead as Lauren Johnson and Kaitlyn Swift scored five points each and Percilla Reid and Taegan Webster nailed a three-pointer each.

South Central led 29-16 at halftime and 44-30 going into the final quarter.

Webster finished with 26 points, scoring 12 in the final period. She hit nine field goals, three of those trifectas, and was five of five at the line.

Also in double figures were Johnson with 12 and Ka. Swift with 11.

At Farina

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City trailed North Clay (Louisville), 13-11 after the opening quarter and 28-21 at halftime but got things together in the second half to pull out a 55-48 victory as two National Trail Conference teams met Monday evening.

North Clay went into the opening quarter lead behind two three-pointers by Alexis VanDyke and five points from Matia Price.

Miah Ballard then went on a tear ni the second quarter for the Cardinals with nine points for the 28-21 halftime lead.

The Bobcats started to get back in the game in the third quarter as Macee Rodman hit for five points and Marissa Summers put in a three-pointer. The game was tied at 34-34.

In the final period, Rodman got loose, knocking in four baskets, one from three-point range, and was four of six at the line for 13 of her team's 21 points.

Rodman finished with 22 on eight field goals, two three-pointers, and four of seven at the line. Ruby Stuckemeyer added 15 points on five field goals and five of eight at the line. She also led in rebounds with 18, steals with three and blocks with four. 

The Bobcats improved to 9-9 on the season.

North Clay was led by VanDyke with 15 points on five three-pointers. Price added 13 and Ballard 12.

At Cowden

Cumberland put on a scoring show in this contest, blasting Heritage, 66-10 Monday evening.

The Pirates went on a 26 point run in the opening quarter while holding Heritage to zero.

Five players scored in that opening quarter led by Jade Carr with eight points.

The scoring slowed down but Cumberland held a 37-4 halftime lead.

The Pirates then had a 29-6 second half.

Four players hit double figures for Cumberland. Suzy Fritts and Alysa Dittamore led the way with 12 points each. Fritts hit five field goals, two from three point range while A. Dittamore had five field goals and two free throws.

Bethalto Civic Memorial hosted Teutopoils and sent the Wooden Shoes home with a 43-26 loss Monday evening.

The Eagles edged out to a 9-6 opening quarter lead and led 18-12 at halftime.

Bethalto then had a 12-5 third period scoring run and outdistanced the Shoes 13-9 in the final quarter.

T-town was led by Chloe Probst with 10 points on three field goals, two of those from three-point range, and two of four at the line.

Isabelle Zerrusen led in rebounds with eight. Summer Wall had two steals. Kelsey Niemerg led in assists with two.

At Newton

Mount Carmel traveled to Newton and edged the Eagles, 40-38 in Monday evening action.

The Eagles held a 13-9 opening quarter lead but Mount Carmel came back with an 8-3 second period to lead 17-16 at halftime.

Newton outscored the Golden Aces with a 16-11 third period to pull ahead 32-28 going into the final quarer.

But Mount Carmel mounted a rally with a 12-6 run for the victory.

Camryn Martin led Newton with 13 points on four field goals, one from three-point range, and four of six at the line. Lilly Kessler led in rebounds with 10. C. Martin had four assists.

Newton drops to 11-9 on the season and will be back in action Thursday hosting Richland County.

Newton claimed the junior varsity game, 26-17. Allie Hermann led the Eagles with 12 points. Newton's junior varsity holds an 11-2 record.
