EHS, St. Anthony, WSS, Neoga Win In High School Girls Basketball

The Hearts put together a 12-8 second period to lead 23-19 at halftime then finished out a 15-9 final quarter for the 43-33 win.

Two players scored in double figures for the Hearts. Bella Austin led the way with 11 points on three field goals that included one three-pointer, and was four of four at the line. Bria Beals added 10 points.

Mount Zion was led by Denver Anderson with 14 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of three at the line.

Effingham also claimed the junior varsity victory, 53-13.

At Flora

Effingham St. Anthony, ranked ninth in last week's Class 1A state poll, put together a 69-45 victory over Flora Saturday.

The Bulldogs held a 19-9 opening quarter lead as Nancy Ruholl hit three baskets and two free throws for eight points and Adysen Rios tallied four baskets for eight.

Stacie Vonderheide took over in the second quarter, scoring 10 points and continued on with eight in the third quarter as the Bulldogs held a 55-34 lead.

Vonderheide finished with 23 points on 11 field goals and one free throw. Ruholl tallied 16 on five field goals and six of nine at the line. Rios chipped in with 12.

Vonderheide added 14 rebounds, four assists and had six steals. Ruholl had six boards, four assists and four steals. Rios pulled down six rebounds, had two assists and four steals. She was four of four at the line for the game.

Addie Nuxoll led the way in rebounds with 10 and added five points.

"Freshman Aubrey Denning had a great game off the bench with seven points and three rebounds," said St. Anthony Coach Aaron Rios. "We finished with 48 rebounds, 17 steals, 13 assists with only 10 turnovers. We forced Flora into 20 turnovers.

St. Anthony is back in action tonight with a home game against Salem.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed Cumberland after the opening quarter but came back in the second and third periods with a 27-11 run and finished with a 48-35 victory Saturday.

Two players finished in double digits for the winners. Ella Kinkelaar hit five field goals and was four of five at the line for 14 points while Samantha Hayes added 13 points.

The Hatchets improved to .500 on the season with a 9-9 record.

Cumberland was led by Alysa Dittamore with 10 points on four field goals and two free throws.

Neoga took the early lead and never looked back in a 58-33 non-conference win over Casey-Westfield Saturday.

Neoga held a 33-18 halftime lead and finished out with 15-4 final quarter run.

Four players were in double figures for the Indians. Haylee Campbell led the way with six field goals and two of five at the line for 14 points. Brynn Richards added 12, Atalie Osborn 11 and Gracie Eaton 10.

Neoga had six three-pointers with Allison Sampson hitting three for nine poitns.

Neoga improved to 12-6 on the season and returns to action today, hosting Pana.
