Altamont Wins, T-town Falls In Paws Shootout

BREESE -- Altamont HIgh School claimed a victory while Teutopolis suffered a loss at the Paws Girls Basketball Shoot-out hosted by Breese Central High School Saturday.

Altamont took on Christopher and was a 53-42 winner. The Indians trailed Christopher 15-11 after the opening quarter. Grace Nelson provided eight points while Brianna Grunloh hit a three-pointer.

The Indians then went on a 14-9 second period run to lead 25-24 at halftime. Nelson put in four more baskets and two free throws for 10 points.

Altamont then continued on with a 13-8 third quarter to lead 38-32. Kaylee Lurkins and Nelson scored five points each and Peyton Osteen added three.

Nelson continued on with seven points while Lurkins and P. Osteen added four each in the final quarter 15-11 run for the victory.

Nelson finished with 30 points on 11 field goals and eight of 10 at the line. Lurkins and P. Osteen tallied nine each.

Teutopolis fell to Petersburg PORTA, 45-23. Petersburg took a 14-5 opening quarter lead and led 30-10 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes could never get on track and fell behind 45-13 going into the final quarter.

Chloe Probst led the Wooden Shoes with 12 points on four field goals that included three trifectas and was one of four at the line.

Probst led in rebounds with four. Kelsey Niemerg had one steal and one assist.

In other varsity games, Bethalto Civic Memorial edged Mount Vernon, 46-44; Okawville won over Cissna Park, 46-39; Benton downed Columbia, 58-41; Breese Mater Dei took a 37-35 win over Quincy Notre Dame, Carlyle beat Carterville, 51-40 and Breese Central easily handled Marion, 72-39.
