DIETERICH -- It was an exciting night at Dieterich High School but the homestanders fell in a game that went down to the last seconds.

The evening was dedicated to Ballin' For A Cure. The gate money, along with donations. were split between Mandy Schumacher and Whitney Benefiel who are both battling cancer. There was a basket raffle, half court shots, 50/50 raffle and Chuck a Duck as the evening events. A total of $7,000 was raised during the evening with $3,500 going to each Schumacher and Benefiel.

The game, heard on 979 XFM, then went down to the wire with Altamont claiming a 42-40 victory.

Altamont held a 14-7 opening quarter lead behind Eli Miller's seven points. Landen Keck led the Movin' Maroons with four points.

The Indians held that same seven point lead at halftime as both teams scored 10 points for a 24-17 tally.

Altamont then pushed farther ahead with a 7-5 third quarter to lead 31-23. But here came Dieterich.

The Maroons went on a three-point barrage as Landen Keck, Lucas Westendorf and Caleb Gephart connected each from behind the arc. Dieterich took its first lead of the game with about a minute remaining. But Altamont came back to move ahead by two.

Caleb Gephart scored an old-fashioned three-point play and hit a regular basket. He also knocked in a three-pointer for eight of his team's 18 points.

The clock wound down and with just a few seconds remaining, Dieterich's Lucas Westendorf threw up a three-point shot that went in but a time out had been called and the basket did not count. Down by two, Dieterich attempted again but time ran out and Altamont had pulled out the 42-40 victory.

Altamont was led by one player in double figures. Eli Miller hit eight field goals, two of those three-pointers, for 18 in the contest. Kade Milleville added nine and Kaidyn Miller eight.

Dieterich was led by Westendorf and Keck with 13 each and Caleb Gephart with 10.  The Maroons hit seven three-pointers led by Keck and Westendrof with three each. Westendorf needs three more points to reach 1,000 points for his career.
