BSE Wins Dieterich Holiday Girls Tournament

Brownstown/St. Elmo captured the championship of the Dieterich Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament.
DIETERICH -- Brownstown/St. Elmo High School claimed the championship of the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.
BSE claimed a 57-35 victory over South Central for the title. BSE edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead. Lexi Seabaugh connected on three baskets and two of two at the line for nine points to lead BSE.
Taegan Webster was keeping the Cougars in the game, scoring 10 of her team's 12 points.
BSE then had a 15-8 second period run as Dayana Haslett connected on five field goals for 10 of her team's points and Seabaugh added on a three-pointer. BSE held a 29-20 halftime lead. Lauren Johnson led the Cougars with five points.
BSE then decided it was time to kick it into gear with a 21-3 third period to put the contest into the safety zone. Haslett hit two three-pointers, a regular basket and one free throw for nine points while Presley Wililams added three baskets and two free throws for eight.
South Central came back in the final period with a 12-7 run but couldn't overcome that third quarter surge by BSE.
Three players hit double digits for the winners. Haslett led the way with 10 field goals, two from three-point range, and two of six at the line for 24. Seabaugh added 16 and Williams finished with 11.
South Central was led by Webster with 17 points on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers, and one of one at the line.
Third place went to Arcola over Dieterich, 51-39. The Purple Riders held a 13-9 opening quarter lead and led 18-12 at halftime.
Dieterich never did get unwound as Arcola has a 15-12 third period and finished out with an 18-12 final quarter.
Kacie Sisk led the winners with 27 points while Jacy Kessler added 11.
Dieterich was led by Miley Britton with 17 points on four field goals, two from trifecta land, and seven of 10 at the line.
Marshall captured fifth place by downing Casey-Westfield, 56-43.
The seventh-place contest went to Red Hill (Bridgeport) over Cumberland, 46-40.
The Pirates edged out to a 13-12 opening quarter lead but Red Hill came back to move ahead 20-19 at halftime. Red Hill then had a 15-8 third period to put the contest away.
Tess Heath led the winners with 14 points while Caitlee Gray added 13.
Cumberland was led by Suzy Fritts with 15 and Jade Carr with 14. Fritts hit six field goals, one a three-pointer, and was two of four at the line.
Named to the All-Tournament Team were Miley Britton (Dieterich), Alysa Dittamore (Cumberland), Dayana Haslett (Brownstown/St. Elmo), Jacey Kessler (Arcola), Lucy Moore (Casey-Westfield), Lexi Seabaugh (Brownstown/St. Elmo), Kacie Sisk (Arcola), Kady Tegeler (Dieterich), Taegan Webster (South Central) and Lynn Welborn (Marshall).
