S. Central, BSE To Meet For Dieterich Girls Title;

DIETERICH -- South Central and Brownstown/St. Elmo will meet for the championship of the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament after both claimed victories Wednesday.

In the opening game of the day, Red Hill (Bridgeport) edged Casey-Westfield, 21-17.

The second game went to South Central over Marshall, 58-52. The Cougars held a 17-13 opening quarter lead and led 28-19 at halftime. Marshall came back with a 24-16 third period run to pull within 44-43 at halftime. South Central then got back on track with a 14-9 final quarter.

Taegan Webster connected on seven field goals, one from three-point range, and six of 16 at the line for 21 points. She was the lone South Central player in double figures. Percilla Reid, Lorelai Rose and Addison Conant chipped in with nine points each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo then captured a 47-40 win over Casey-Westfield.

BSE edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead then pushed that to 24-12 at halftime. The Warriors came back with a 28-23 second half run but it was too little.

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Dayana Haslett led the way with 16 points on five field goals, two three-pointers, and four of five at the line. Lexi Seabaugh added 15 and Presley Williams 10.

Cumberland then fell to Marshall, 74-58.

Marshall took a 17-11 opening quarter lead and led 38-27 at halftime. Cumberland couldn't get any closer.

The Pirates were led by Alysa Dittamore with 20 points on eight field goals and four of eight at the line. Jade Carr added 15 points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo then defeated Arcola, 62-43.

With a 10-point lead at halftime, BSE went on a 39-30 second half for the winning margin.

Arcola put in 10 three-pointers in the contest led by Kacie Sisk with five. She finished with 23 points.

Seabaugh finished as the leading scorer for BSE with 23 points on six field goals and 11 of 14 at the line. Day. Haslett added 16 and Madi Miller 12.

BSE hit 24 of 30 free throws while Arcola shot only nine times and hit five.

In the final game of the day, Dieterich downed Cumberland, 55-38.

The Maroons held a 22-10 halftime lead and outscored the Pirates 33-28 in the second half.

Estella Meinhart led the way with 17 points on eight field goals and one of three at the line. Also in double digits were Miley Britton with 14 and Ruby Westendorf with 10.

Cumberland was led by Suzy Fritts with 18 points on six field goals, four of those from three-point range, and two of three at the line.

Today's finals include Cumberland against Red Hill at 1 p.m. for seventh place, Marshall facing Casey-Westfield at 2:30 for fifth place. Dieterich meeting Arcola at 4 p.m. for third place and South Central against Brownstown-St. Elmo at 6 p.m. for the championship.
