CHBC, BSE, North Clay Nab Girls Basketball Victories

VANDALIA -- Brownstown/St. Elmo held a 28-20 halftime lead and then went on a second half tear in downing host Vandalia, 65-34 in girls high school basketball Tuesday evening.

BSE edged out to an 11-6 opening quarter lead with five points coming from the free throw line. Dayana Haslett hit a basket and was three of four at the line for five in the quarter. 

BSE then had a 17-14 second period to pull into a 28-20 halftime lead. Madi Miller took over the scoring with two baskets and three free throws for seven in the quarter while Day. Haslett had a three-pointer and regular basket for five.

The winners then went on a wild second half run, outscoring the Vandals 23-7 in the third period. Miller continued her run with three baskets and three free throws for nine poitns while Lexie Seabaugh got unwound, scoring a three-pointer and three regular baskets for nine.

Day. Haslett took over in the final period with three baskets and a free throw for eight.

Haslett finished with 18 points on six field goals, that included two three-pointers, and was four of six at the line. Miller tallied 16 and Seabaugh finished with 14.

In the junior varsity contest, BSE was a 32-11 winner. Danika Ramsey led the way with 11 points while Audria Logue added eight.

At Kansas

Tri-County High School took the opening quarter lead and went on for a 49-36 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

Tri-County held a 15-7 opening quarter lead and was ahead 25-17 at halftime.

CHBC and Tri-County scored 13 each in the third period before the winners had an 11-6 final quarter.

The Bobcats had two players hit double figures. Ruby Stuckemeyer led the way with 15 points on four field goals and seven of 14 at the line. Macee Rodman chipped in with 13 as she connected on two three-pointers and was three of four at the line.

Rodman and Stuckemeyer pulled down eight rebounds each and had four steals each. Stuckemeyer led in blocks with three. Karlee Smith led in assists with three.

The Bobcats dropped to 7-7 on the season.

In junior varsity play, CHBC was a 37-33 winner. Madison Dawson led the way for the Bobcats with 15 points. CHBC improved to 7-2 in junior varsity play.

CHBC is back in action Thursday, playing host to Newton.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) defeated Fairfield, 42-32 in Tuesday evening action.

The Cardinals improved to 6-7 on the season and aren't back in action until the Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tournament Wednesday, December 27.
