SEB, C'land Advance In Boys Holiday Tourney, N. Clay Loses

St. Elmo/Brownstown took charge of its contest against Mulberry Grove in the opening quarter and went on for a 73-39 victory.
SEB's Josiah Maxey nailed four baskets for eight points as the Eagles went into a 16-5 opening quarter lead. SEB then had a 12-4 secon dperiod run to lead 28-9 at halftime.
It was just a matter of how big the winning margin was going to be as the Eagles took a 24-15 third period. Adam ATwood knocked in four baskets that included two three-poitners and was two of four at the line for 12 of his team's total points. Lowell Wilhour hit four of four from the free throw line.
SEB then had a 21-15 final period to end the contest. The Eagles connected on four three-pointers as Brody Mason hit two and Ryan Powell and Cameron Taylor nailed one each.
Four players scored in double figures for the winners. Atwood led the way with 14 poitns on five field goals, two of those the three-point variety, and two of four at the line. J. MAxey added 12, Collin Maxey 10 and Wilhour 10. J. Maxey connected on 71 percent from the field with five of seven baskets while C. Maxey hit 50 percent with five of 10.
Leading in rebounding was Atwood with 15 boards, nine defensive. J. Maxey pulled down eight boards and led in steals with seven. Cade Schaub led in assists with five.
In the second game, Cumberland edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 32-28.
The Pirates took an 11-9 opening quarter lead as Kade McMEchan and Kelby Bierman connected on a three-pointer each.
Ke. Bierman hit four of four free throws while Kaleb Bierman knocked in a three-pointer in the secon dperiod. The two teams played to a 7-7 tie and Cumberland led 18-16 at halftime.
CHBC was led by Clayton Wojcik with two baskets in the quarter.
The Pirates then had a slgiht 9-8 third quarter edged to lead 27-24 going into the final period.
Cumberland finished out with a 5-4 final quarter run.
Only one player ended in double figures for both teams in the contest. Ke. Bierman tallied 10, hitting a three-opitner and seven of eight from the line.
Wojcik led the Bobcats with eight points on three field goals and two of four at the line.
Cumberland and St. Elmo/Brownstown will square off at 7:45 p.m. Friday in winner bracket play. CHBC dropped into consolation bracket action against Mublerry Grove Friday at 6:15 p.m.
Tonight's games feature ramsey against Patoka/Odin at 6:15 p.m. in consolation bracket play followed by Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg taking on Hillsboro at 7:45 in winner bracket action.

At Wayne City
North Clay (Louisville) fell in the Wayne City Holiday Tournament Wednesday evening.
Webber Township (Bluford) won over the Cardinals, 53-45.
In the second contest, Crab Orchard downed Wayne City JV, 74-49.
North Clay immediately returns to action tonight against Wayne City at 8:30 p.m.
The Cardinals are 2-6 on the season.
