Neoga Wins, WSS, CHBC Falls In Girls H.S. Basketball

NEOGA -- Neoga High School edged out to a 21-18 opening quarter lead and went on to defeat Tri-County by a 71-59 count in girls non-conference high school basketball play Tuesday evening.

Brynn Richards continued to roll along. She led Neoga with 29 points, connecting on 12 field goals and was four of six at the line. Haylee Campbell hit eight field goals and was a perfect four of four at the line for 20 points.

The Indians led by that same three-point count at halftime, 34-31 but went on a 37-28 second half run for the final margin.

Also in double figures for the winners was Allison Sampson with 11, hitting three trifectas, while Atalie Osborn was one point away from double figures with nine.

The Indians improved to 7-1 on the season and returns to action Thursday playing host to Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville.

Tri-County was a 37-19 winner in the junior varsity contest.

At Arcola

Arcola edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening, 59-52.

The Purple Riders held a 13-9 opening quarter lead but Windsor/Stras-Stras fought back with a 23-16 run to lead 32-28 at halftime. Arcola then had a 30-20 second half run.

Ella Kinkelaar led the Hatchets with 19 points on six field goals, three of those trifectas, and four of four at the line. Also in double figures were Ellie Wittenberg with 11 points and Kendra Hayes with 10.

Windsor/Stew-Stras dropped to 4-6 on the season.

At Cowden

Decatur St. Teresa trailed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City by a point after the opening quarter but went on a run in the second and fourth periods for a 54-38 non-conference win Tuesday.

St. Teresa held a 27-23 halftime lead and led by that same four-point margin after three quarters, 39-35 then had a 15-3 fourth quarter surge.

CHBC was led by Macee Rodman with 16 points on six field goals, two from three-point range, and two free throws. Rodman led in steals with two.

Ruby Stuckemeyer led in rebounds with 11 and in blocks with four.

CHBC dropped to 6-4 on the season.

CHBC won the junior varsity contest, 33-15 to improve to 4-1.

Ines Saez-Ferrer tallied eight points for the winners.
