T-town To Play For Championship, St. Michael For Third Seventh-Grade Girls Tourneys

AUBURN -- Teutopolis will be playing for the Class 7-3A State Girls Basketball championship after capturing two victories during the weekend at Auburn High School.
T-town took a 44-17 win over Monticello in the opener. The Wooden Shoes moved ahead 10-2 after the first quarter and held a 23-5 halftime lead.
Eight players scored for the Shoes. Maggie Drees lead the way with 12 points on three field goals and six of eight at the line. Jolie Deters and Grace Martin tallied seven points eash.
In other first round games, Chillicothe won over Morris Saratoga 25-19, Williamsville downed Lockport Kelvin Grove, 42-12 and Piasa Southwestern defeated Stanford Olympia, 37-28.
T-town then faced Chillicothe and was a 33-8 winner. The Shoes edged out to a 6-3 opening quarter lead and led 15-5 at halftime. T-town had an 18-3 second half.
Drees, Lexi Hoene and Grace Martin all scored nine points each for the Shoes.
T-town improved to 25-1 on the season and will play for the state championship at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Williamsville.
Williamsville defeated Piasa Southwestern, 35-24. The third place contest will feature Chillicothe against PIasa Southwestern at 6 p.m. Thursday.

At Assumption
Sigel St. Michael opened the Class 7-1A State Tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School by pounding Rantoul St. Malachy, 25-2.
St. Malachy scored its only points in the opening quarter. St. Michael held a 12-2 halftime lead.
Tinley Niebrugge and Sadie Wiessing led the Sharpshooters with five points each.
In other first round games, Kinderhook Western defeated Peoria St. Jude, 21-7; Peru Catholic won over Champaign St. Matthew, 23-20 and Washington St. Patrick downed Gardner, 39-13.
The Sharpshooters then fell to Washington St. Patrick, 39-11 as one player scored 30 points for the winners. Kate McDougall hit 10 field goals, three from three-point range and was seven of seven at the line.
St. Michael was led by Bella Ordner with four points.
In the other game, Kinderhook Western defeated Peru Catholic, 27-20.
Kinderhook Western and Washington St. Patrick square off for the championship Thursday at 7:30 p.m. St. Michael will meet Peru Catholic at 6 p.m. for third place. St. Michael is now 20-3 on the season.
