BOYS

Effingham  39, Taylorville  35 (in a contest heard on Classic Hits 979XFM, the Hearts picked up their second win of the season. Effingham pulled out to a 16-8 first quarter lead and extended their advantage to 23-13 by halftime. The Tornadoes closed to within 31-26 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Hearts held on for the four-point win. Cannon Bockhorn led Effingham with 14 points. Also for the Hearts: Ethan Jones 9 with seven rebounds, Nolan Fearday 5, KJ Kellams 5, Hayden Wendling 4, and Spencer Fox 2 with six rebounds. Dillon Clark led Taylorville with 16 points. The Hearts posted the win despite shooting just under 24% from the field. Effingham made 15 of 21 foul shots, grabbed 29 rebounds, committed 11 turnovers and made 4 of 18 three point attempts. Effingham improved to 2-4 on the season. Taylorville is 0-2. Effingham won the JV game 53-39)

Mahomet-Seymour  65,  Mattoon  55 

GIRLS

Effingham  65, Mount Vernon  63 (the Lady Hearts posted the two-point win in a game that was close start-to-finish. Effingham trailed 18-16 after one quarter, but moved ahead 35-33 at halftime and were up 51-45 after three quarters. The Lady Rams outscored Effingham 18-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Hearts held on for the victory. Effingham had three players in double figures including Sidney Donaldson with 17 points, Averie Wolfe with 14 and Bria Beals with 11. Also for Effingham: Alyssa Martin 7, Saige Althoff 6, Olivia Moser 5, and Bella Austin 5. Zedalis led Mt. Vernon with 20 points. Mt. Vernon won the JV game 52-34. T-Town  74,  Benton  69 (the Lady Shoes held a 20-13 lead after one quarter, and were up 38-34 at halftime T-Town led 63-47 after three quarters, but Benton outscored the Lady Shoes 22-11 in the final quarter to make it a five-point final. Malea Helmink led the Lady Shoes with 17 points, also Anna Probst 15, Chloe Probst 15, Summer Wall 11, Isabelle Zerrusen 5, Mollie Ruholl 4, Jersey Gaddis 3, Kelsey Niemerg 2, Allie Ruholl 2. M.Webb led Benton with 24 points. Teutopolis shot 27 of 46 from the field. Helmink led in rebounds with seven)

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City  63,   Martinsville  17  (the Lady Bobcats led 22-1 after the first quarter and rolled from there: for CHBC--Macee Rodman 17, Ruby Stuckemeyer 13, Koda Colman 8, Shae Nohren 7, Baya Fingo 6, Marissa Summers 5, Karlee Smith 4, Averie Vaughn 3, Ines Saez-Ferrer 1; CHBC improved to 4-3 on the season; CHBC won the JV game 41-14 to improve to 3-1)

St Anthony  72,  Windsor/Stew-Stras   48 (Stacie Vonderheide paced the Lady Bulldogs with 25 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and two steals; also for St. Anthony: Nancy Ruholl 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals; Adysen Rios 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals; Kallie Kabbes eight points and six rebounds; Ava Faber seven points, two assists and a steal; St. Anthony shot 82% from the free throw line and had just 10 turnovers; for WSS: Ella Kinkelaar 12, Samantha Hayes 11, Ellie Wittenberg 9, Katelyn VonBehrens 7, Kendra Hayes 6, Morgan Mathis 3; St. Anthony won the JV game 17-10; for St. Anthony: Aubrey Dennis nine points and seven rebounds; Addie Lauritzen six points; A.
