Sigel St. Michael S. Central, T-town Advance To Junior High Girls State Basketball Tourneys

Sigel St. Michael and Teutopolis advanced to State Tournaments in their respectively classes in girls junior high basketball Wednesday evening, while South Central fell.

 

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Sigel St. Michael captured its own sectional championship with a 24-17 victory over Pana Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart ended the season with a 22-3 record.

The Sharpshooters advanced with a 19-2 mark to the Assumption Central A&M Middle School State Tournament Saturday and will meet Rantoul St. Malachy at 1 p.m. St. Malachy sports a 22-1 mark.

Other teams in the field include Peoria St. Jude (14-11), Kinderhook Western (10-7), Peru Catholic (15-2), Champaign St. Matthew (16-5), Washington St. Patrick (25-0) and the winner of sectional one which is yet to be determined.

 

Class 7-2A  Casey-Westfield Sectional

Paris Crestwood came out the winner in a low-scoring contest against South Central for this sectional championship.

Paris Crestwood edged South Central, 18-13. South Central ended the season with a 9-13 record.

Paris Crestwood advances to the State Tournament at Riverton High School Saturday with a 16-6 record and will meet Mount Pulaski at 11:30 a.m.

 

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Sectional

The hometown crowd got to witness a sectional championship for the Wooden Shoes as T-town trounced Tuscola East Paririe, 35-3.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 23-1 on the season and will head to the 3A State Tournament at Auburn High School Saturday to face Monticello (19-5) at 11:30 a.m.

Other teams in the field include Morris Saratoga (22-1), Chillicothe (22-3), Lockport Kelvin Grove (21-5), Williamsville (23-1), Piasa Southwestern (23-1) and Stanford Olympia (19-5).

Tuscola East Prairie finished the season with a 12-12 record.
