SALEM -- Effingham St. Anthony rallied from an eight-point first quarter deficit and went on to edge Salem, 42-38 in boys high school basketball Tuesday evening.

The Wildcats ran out to a 16-8 opening quarter lead. Brock Fearday scored all of the Bulldogs points with three baskets, one a three-pointer, and a free throw.

St. Anthony then mounted a comeback with a 9-2 second period to pull within 18-17 at halftime. Samuel Link scored five of the second quarter points.

The Wildcats came back after halftime with a 17-13 third quarter to lead 35-30. Brenan Richardson hit for eight points and Noah Nix six.

But, once again, here came the Bulldogs. St. Anthony put together a 12-point run and held the Wildcats to three to claim the victory.

Ryan Schmidt nailed a three-pointer and hit three of three from the free throw line for six points while B. Fearday put in two baskerts and Brady Hatton a bucket.

B. Fearday finished with 20 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of one at the line. Schmidt tallied 10 on a three-pointer and seven of seven at the line.

Salem claimed the junior varsity contest, 47-36. Henry Brent led the Bulldogs with 10 points and Aiden Lauritzen added nine.

At Effingham

Effingham fell to Casey-Westfield, 59-31 Tuesday evening.

No other information was provided.

 

At Toledo

Altamont edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter lead then opened up the score to 32-18 at halftime and never looked back in the win over Cumberland Tuesday.

The Indians' Dillan Elam scored five points in the opening quarter lead. Eli Miller joined in with D. Elam, scoring seven points each in the second period run.

D. Elam finished with 17 points on five field goals, two three-pointers, and five of six at the line. Kaidyn Miller finished with 14, 10 coming in the second half. Eli Miller added 12.

The Indians hit 21 field goals, five of those from three-point range, and were seven of 10 at the line. Altamont improved to 2-- 0.

Cumberland had only one player in double figures. Cameron Roedl led the way with 13 on five field goals, two from three-point range, and one of two at the line.

Altamont won the junior varsity contest, 58-24.

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City started the regular season off with a 60-50 win over National Trail Conference opponent Neoga Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats held a slight 31-30 edge at halftime behind the scoring of AJ Radloff with 14 points, Gage Lorton with eight and Clayton Wojcik with seven.

CHBC continued on with a third quarter 16-7 surge. Radloff added nine more points to his total with three field goals and two of two at the line.

Both teams tallied 13 points in the final period.

Radloff led the victory with 23 points on 10 field goals, one from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Lorton added 18 and Wojcik finished with 14.

Neoga was led by Luke Keller with 15 points on five field goals, two trifectas and three of four at the line. Trey Sheehan added 13 and Gavin Roy 10.

CHBC is now 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the NTC which is the first time the Bobcats have started 1-- 0 for the co-op.

Neoga claimed the junior varsity game and CHBC was a winner in freshman/sophomore action.

CHBC will celebrate homecoming Friday with a rematch against Ramsey.

At Cisne

Dieterich fought back from an opening deficit and broke a 36-36 halftime tie against Cisne with a 35-29 second half and went on for a 71-65 victory Tuesday.

Landen Keck scored eight points in the opening quarter but the Maroons trailed Cisne 21-20. Dieterich came back with a 16-15 second quarter to tie the score at halftime. Tanner Will knocked in two three-pointers while the Maroons were perfect from the free throw line with six of six.

Dieterich then had a 15-10 third quarter to move ahead 51-46 and produced nine out of 10 from the free throw line in the final quarter for the victory. Keck finished with five of six from the line and nine points in the final period.

Will and Caleb Gephart led the Maroons with 18 points each. Will hit seven field goals, three from trifecta land, and a free throw. Gephart tallied five field goals, two trifectas and was six of six from the free throw line. The Maroons finished with 20 of 27 free throws.

At Sullivan

Sullivan played host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and captured a 57-39 non-conference victory Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets held an 11-9 opening quarter lead but Sullivan came roaring back with a 24-10 second period to lead 33-21 at halftime. Sullivan then had a 24-18 second half.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Nathaniel Gracey with 15 points on six field goals and three of four at the line, and Jackson Gurgel with 11.

The Hatchets are now 2-3 on the season and return to action Friday hosting Dieterich.

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the junior varsity contest, 34-31.
