DIETERICH -- Effingham and Dieterich split victories in junior high boys basketball Monday evening.

The Mustangs were winners in the seventh-grade contest, 35-26. Dieterich held a 6-4 opening quarter lead and led 13-10 at halftime. But Effingham came back with an 8-6 third quarter to pull within 19-18 and then had a 17-7 final period run as Kaden Rohr went on a tear, connecting on a three-pointer, a free throw and two regular baskets for eight points while Truitt Pals added five points.

Rohr finished with 16 for the game.

Dieteich was led by W. Goeckner with 11.

Dieterich captured the eighth-grade contest, 49-19.

Dieterich ripped out to an 18-3 opening quarter lead and led 37-11 at halftime.

The winners had three players in double figures. Alex Schottman tallied 15 while Ben Schottman added 14 and Bryce Bohnhoff 11.

Effingham was led by Jenner Pals with six points.

At Newton

Effingham St. Anthony and Jasper County both picked up a victory each Monday evening.

St. Anthony captured the seventh-grade game, 52-26 with an opening 19-7 run and led 32-11 at halftime.

Blake Verdeyen scored 20 points to lead the winners while Sebastian Looman added nine.

Jasper County was led by Jacob Ferguson with 12 points. Ferguson was the top rebounder and Chase Kistner the top defender. Jasper County fell to 6-2.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County edged the Bullpups, 45-42. St. Anthony held a 17-15 halftime lead. Jasper County came back with a 30-25 second half for the win.

Eli Wolf scored 16 points while Maddox Horner added 13. Ian Kessler was the top rebounder.

St. Anthony was led by Conner Storm with 18 points and Cooper Sehy with 10.

At Newton

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis captured the seventh-grade B contest over Sigel St. Michael Monday.

St. Michael held a 7-2 opening quarter lead but T-town came back to lead 19-15 at halftime. The Sharpshooters had a 13-7 third quarter run to lead 28-26 but the Shoes came back with an 8-2 final quarter to pull out the 34-30 victory.

Jack Weber and Ripken Miller led the way for the Shoes with 10 points each.

St. Michael was led by Dasenbrock with nine points.

In eighth-grade B action, T-town was a 29-23 winner. The Shoes ripped out to a 13-0 opening quarter lead then had to hold off St. Michael for the win.

Keegan Swingler scored 10 points for the winners.

Fearday was the leader for the Sharpshotoers with 10.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg handed St. Elmo/Brownstown two losses in Monday evening play.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade contest, 44-29 to improve to 2-3 in the Natinoal Trail Conference, 5-4 overall.

Weston Friese led the way for the winners with 13 points while Sawyer Kaufman added eight.

SEB was led by Stufflebeam and Schaub with nine each.

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras was a 45-35 winner. Stew-Stras took a 22-19 halftime lead and had a 23-16 second half.

Mason Manhort scored 16 and Parker Duncan 12 for the winners who are now 5-0 in the conference, 7-3 overall.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Gillespie with 11 and Wehrle with 10.

At Strasburg

North Clay (Louisville) downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in seventh-grade play, 40-35 in Monday evening action.

In eighth-grade competition, North Clay was a 38-31 winner.
