BETHANY -- Nancy Ruholl and Stacie Vonderheide provided the one-two scoring punch for Effingham St. Anthony as the Bulldogs dominated in a 72-30 girls high school basketball victory Monday evening over Okaw Valley.

Ruholl nailed seven regular field goals, three from three-point range, and was seven of nine from the free throw line for 30 points. Meanwhile, Vonderheide connected on 11 field goals and was one of two at the line for 23 points.

St. Anthony rolled out to a 26-7 opening quarter lead as Ruholl scored seven and Vonderheide six in the quarter. Kallie Kabbes scored five points.

Vonderheide took over in the second quarter with 12 of the team's 20 points as St. Anthony held a 46-13 halftime lead.

Ruholl finished out the game with a 12-point fourth quarter run. Ruholl also pulled down nine rebounds, had five assists and eight steals.

Vonderheide, along with her 23 points, led in rebounds with 18  and had three assists and three steals.

Ava Faber finished with eight points and five rebounds while Kabbes tallied seven points and pulled down six rebounds.

In the junior varsity contest, the Bulldogs were 27-0 winners. Audrey Denning had 14 points, three rebounds and six steals while Addie Lauritzen added four points and five boards.

St. Anthony returns to action Thursday, playing host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg. The varsity contest should begin early, around 6:45 p.m.

At Neoga

Neoga came through in the final quarter to pull out a 61-56 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg as two National Trail Conference teams collided Monday evening.

The Hatchets edged out to a 15-11 opening quarter lead  as Samantha Hayes connected on three baskets and Ella Kinkelaar put in a three-pointer. WSS continued with the momentum to take a 33-25 lead at halftime. Kinkelaar hit a free throw then nailed three straight baskets for eight points. Morgan Mathis added a three-pointer and the Hatchets held a 33-25 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Neoga came back with a 19-11 run to tie the score at 44-44. Atalie Osborn scored seven points on two regular baskets and a three-pointer while Haylee Campbell added two baskets and two of two at the line for six points.

Then in the final period, Neoga continued to roll as Osborn scored another seven points and Campbell added six for a 17-12 run and the victory.

Campbell finished with 23 points on 10 field goals and three of six at the line while Osborn hit eight field goals, three of those trifectas, and was three of four at the line for 22.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Kinkelaar with 15 points on five field goals, two of those three-pointers, and three of four at the line. Hayes added 13 on six field goals and one of two at the line. Also in double figures was Mathis with four three-pointers for 12 points.

Neoga improves to 1-0 in the National Trail Conference and 4-1 overal and returns to action Thursday at North Clay (Louisville).

Neoga also claimed the junior varsity contest, 30-26.

At Dieterich

Altamont came calling in a National Trail Conference contest and went home with a 66-45 win over Dieterich Monday evening.

The Indians put up a three-point barrage in the first quarter to take a 19-9 lead. Grace Nelson and Claire Boehm connected on two three-pointers while Skylie Klein added one for 15 points. Nelson led the way with eight points.

Nelson then went to the free throw ilne in the second period, hitting six of six along with two regular baskets and another three-pointer for 13 of her team's 21 points. The Indians led 40-21 at halftime.

Nelson continued on with six points in the third period and Peyton Osteen connected on a three-pointer and free throw as the Indians had a 14-12 edge. Both teams scored 12 in the final period.

Nelson finished with 31 points on 11 field goals, three trom trifecta land, and six of six at the line. Klein added nine and Boehm and P. Osteen eight each.

Altamont hit seven three-pointers in the contest and were 11 of 14 at the line.

Dieterich was led by Miley Britton with 17 points. She was held scoreless in the opening quarter but broke loose with eight points in the second period and six in the third. She connected on four three-pointers. Estella Meinhart added eight points.

Dieterich won the junior varsity game, 40-33.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had four players hit double figures in a 67-43 National Trail Conference victory over South Central Monday evening.

Lexi Seabaugh got BSE off in the right direction in the opening quarter as she hit five baskets, one a three-pointer, for 11 in taking a 24-14 lead.

Then it was Dayana Haslett and Presley Williams who went on a scoring binge in the second quarter. Haslett connected on two three-pointers, a regular basket and two of two at the line for 10 while Wililams hit four baskets for eight. BSE held a 44-20 halftime lead.

Haslett continued in the third quarter with 10 more points as BSE had a 21-13 run to lead 65-33 going into the final period.

Haslett finished with 20 points on eight field goals, two of those three-pointers, and two of two at the line. Williams added 19 while Seabaugh had 17 and Madi Miller 10.

South Cental was led by Taegan Webster with 22 points on seven field goals, three of those trifectas, and five of eight at the line.

Cumberland stepped out to a 13-3 opening quarter lead and went on to down Casey-Westfield, 41-29 Monday evening.

The Pirates held a 22-8 halftime lead. The two teams played to a 19-19 second half.

Katelyn Shoemaker was the lone player in the game in double figures. Shoemaker hit four field goals, three of those from three-point range, for 11. The Pirates finished with eight three-pointers.
