Bulldogs Finish 3-1 at Robinson Girls Thanksgiving Tourney

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony finished 3-1 at the Robinson Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament Friday and Saturday.

The Bulldogs opened with a 62-58 victory over Mount Carmel on Friday. Mount Carmel held a 16-10 opening quarter lead and led 34-24 at halftime. St. Anthony then came roaring back in the second half with a 38-24 tally. In that third quarter 20-14 run, Nancy Ruholl scored 15 of her team's 20 points. Vonderheide finished out with 16 of the 18 final quarter tallies.

Ruholl had an outstanding game, scoring 37 points on 11 field goals, five of those from three-point range, and 10 of 11 at the free throw line. Also in double figures was Stacie Vonderheide with 10.

Ruholl had seven rebounds, three steals and four assists. Vonderheide had six rebounds, five steals and three assists while Addie Lauritzen had five rebounds.

In the afternoon contest, St. Anthony won 64-34 over Marshall. In this one, the Bulldogs put the game away in the opening quarter with a 27-10 run as Ruholl tallied 14 and Vonderheide nine points. St. Anthony led 43-22 at halftime.

Both teams tallied nine in the third qnarter before St. Anthony finished out with a 12-3 final period.

Vonderheide led the way with 25 points and 13 rebounds. She had six assists and 13 steals. Ruholl tallied 18 points, had four assists, four steals and five rebounds. Adysen Rios finished with nine points, eight assists, eight steals and five rebounds.

The Bulldogs pulled down 30 boards, had 27 steals, 21 assists with only nine turnovers in the game.

In other Friday games, Robinson defeated Mount Carmel, 63-43; Fairfield won over Marshall, 49-33 and Robinson went overtime to beat Fairfield, 40-36.

In Saturday action, St. Anthony suffered a tough loss to Robinson, 57-55. The Bulldogs held a 10-8 opening quarter ead but Robinson came back with a 24-14 second period run, scoring 14 points from the free throw line, to move ahead 32-24 at halftime. St. Anthony outscored the Maroons in the second half but ended up with a 57-55 loss.

Ruholl tallied 25 points on 10 field goals, three of those trifectas, and was two of three at the line. She had seven rebounds, three steals and three assists. Vonderheide added 19 points, eight rebounds, four stealsd nd five assits. Ali Kollman had sevne points and five boards.

In the afternoon game, St. Anthony won over Fairfield, 65-33.

The Bulldogs held a 39-16 halftime lead and had an 18-6 third period.

Vonderheide led the way with 24 points, sevne rebounds, five steals and four assits. RUholl added 17 points, five boards, three steals and three assists. Kallie Kabbes had eight points and seven rebounds.

In other Saturday games, Mount Carmel beat Marshall and Robinson won over Marshall 67-42.

Robinson claimed its own tournament with a 4-0 record. St. Anthony finished second at 3-1. Mount Carmel also finished at 3-1 but St. Anthony beat the Aces.

"We played against 2A competition and competed very well to start the season," said St. Anthony Coach Anthony Rios. "Stacie Vonderheide and Nancy Ruholl were named to the All-Tournament Team."
