T-town Third At Capital Classic, WSS Fourth At Cerro Gordo, Altamont Wins Regular Season Game

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Teutopolis High School claimed third place at the boys Capital Classic Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes opened Friday competition with a 54-32 win over Salem at the Red Hill (Bridgeport) site while Olney defeated Red Hill, 49-20. Salem downed Red Hill 65-45 and Olney edged T-town 46-44.

At the Lawrenceville site Friday, Vincennes defeated Grayville 79-48, Lawrenceville won over Fairfield, 48-37, Fairfield then defeated Grayville 66-55 and Lawrenceville downed Vincennes 62-43.

In Saturday play, T-town trounced Red Hill 79-17, Olney won over Salem 64-40, Vincennes defeated Fairfield 42-37 and Lawrenceville JV beat Farifield JV 59-34.

In the finals, Olney defeated Lawrenceville 44-40 for the championship. Teutopolis beat Vincennes 50-46 for third place. Fairfield downed Salem 46-34 for fifth place.

 

Cerro Gordo Tournament

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg finished in fourth place at the Cerro Gordo Boys Basketball Tournament during the weekend.

Windsor/Stew-Stras finished 2-0 in Pool B and faced Champaign St. Thomas More who finished 2-0 in Pool A. In the Friday contest, St. Thomas More won over the Hatchets 64-50. St. Thomas More stepped out to a 24-17 opening quarter lead. Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with a 16-10 second period to pull within 34-32.

But St. Thomas More had a 30-17 second half run for the victory.

Jackson Gurgel led the way for the Hatchets with 26 points while Nathaniel Gracey added 12.

That put Windsor/Stew-Stras in the third place game Saturday against Warrensburg-Latham. 

Warrensburg-Latham led 37-20 at halftime then had a 23-12 third quarter run and finished with a 65-35 victory over the Hatchets.

Connor Manhart led the way for the Hatchets with 12 points.

Tri-Valley captured the championship with a 41-34 win over Champaign St. Thomas More.

Argenta-Oreana claimed fifth place by downing Cerro Gordo 70-55.

At Altamont

In a regular season game Friday evening, Altamont handed Nokomis a 46-27 loss.

The Indians ripped out to a 14-1 opening quarter lead behind four points each by Dillan Elam and Aden McAMnaway.

Altamont held a 26-10 halftime lead. Alec Jahraus and Eli Miller scored a three-pointer each in the second period and McManaway added four more points.

Altamont had an 18-9 third quarter to lead 44-19. Kaidyn Miller scored six points while Jahraus led the way with three trifectas for nine and Kaden Davis added a three-pointer.

The Indians finished with two players in double figures. Jahraus led the way with 13 while Miller added 10.

In junior varsity play, Altamont was a 55-44 winner. Ben Roedl led with 17 while Kade Milleville added 16 and Tyler Ruffner 11.
