Newton Captures Cumberland Boys Thanksgiving Tourney

Casey-Westfield took a 17-11 opening quarter lead but Newton came back with a 17-9 second period to lead 28-26. The Warriors came within 35-34 going into the final quarter before Newton pulled out the 51-47 victory with a 16-13 final period.

Newton had three players in double figures. Caden Nichols and Dylan Gier scored 14 each while Jacob Weber added 12. Gier pulled down 10 rebounds and Parker Wolf nine.

Casey-Westfield kept close with seven three-pointers led by Richards and Cochonour with two each.

Third place went to Marshall over North Clay (Louisville), 59-55.

Dieterich was the fifth place winner over Vandalia, 66-58.

The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 20-11 opening quarter lead and led 36-25 at halftime. Vandalia came back with an 18-13 third period to pull within 49-43 but Dieterich held on in the final quarter with a 17-15 edge for the win.

Landen Keck led the way with 22 points on six field goals, three of those from three-point range, and seven of eight at the line. Caleb Gephart added 19 points while Lucas Westendorf finished with 17 points.

Cumberland edged Okaw Valley 51-49 for seventh place.

In Friday play, Vandalia defeated Cumberland 63-30. Vandalia whipped out to a 16-2 opening quarter lead on the Pirates and never looked back.

Cumberland was led by Reed Miller with nine points.

Dieterich downed Okaw Valley 77-38. The Maroons edged out to a 20-19 openig quarter lead as Lucas Westendorf scored eight and Gephart seven. Dieterich then went on a run, outscoring Okaw Valley 27-5 to lead 47-24 at halftime. 

Westendorf finished with 23 points while Gephart added 22 and Landen Keck 12.

Newton beat North Clay 62-41.  The Eagles held a 19-8 opening quarter lead and led 37-19 at halftime.

Nichols finished with 17, scoring 10 in the opening quarer. Also in double figures were Jacob Weber with 13 and Gier with 10.

Casey-Westfield won over Marshall 47-28.
