Windsor/Stew-Stras Improves to 2-0 At Cerro Gordo Tourney With Win

CERRO GORDO -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School picked up its second win at the Cerro Gordo Boys Basketball Turkey Tournament with a victory Wednesday.

The Hatchets edged host Cerro Gordo, 45-41. WSS moved ahead 14-8 in the opening quarter and led 21-16 at halftime. WSS tallied a slight 14-13 third period lead and then held off the host squad in the final quarter.

Two players hit double figures for the Hatchets. Jackson Grugel connected on five field goals, including a three-pointer, and was two of two at the line for 13 points. Connor Manhart chipped in with 10 and Nathaniel Gracey added nine.

The Hatchets finished with six three-pointers in the game led by Manhart with three and Brody Hendrickson with two.

In the other game at the high school gym, Warrensburg-Latham bounced Heritage, 96-24.

At the junior high gym, Champaign St. Thomas More won over Unity Christian, 61-21 and Argenta-Oreana downed Arthur Christian, 63-48.

The tournament continues Friday. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will face Champaign St. Thomas More at 4 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday.
