CHBC, North Clay, Dieterich, WSS Nab Girls CHBC Thanksgiving Tourney Wins

COWDEN -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won its opening contest in its own Thanksgiving Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

CHBC took a 17-11 opening quarter lead on Ramsey and led 32-27 at halftime. CHBC then put the game away with a 22-8 third period run.

Macee Rodman was the catalyst behind the victory, scoring 31 points on 10 field goals, that included three trifectas, and eight free throws. Also in double figures was Baya Fingo with 13 points.

Ruby Stuckemeyer led in rebounds with seven while Karlee Smith had six. Rodman led in steals with nine. Marissa Summers had five assists and Stuckemeyer led in blocks with five.

The second contest went to North Clay (Louisville) over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 47-30. No other statistics provided.

In the third game, Dieterich defeated Brownstown/St. Elmo, 54-42.

Dieterich edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and led 15-11 at halftime.

Miley Britton then went on a run, scoring nine points in the third period as Dieterich took a 21-15 scoring surge and led 34-29 going into the final quarter.

Dieterich then had an 18-13 final period for the victory.

Britton led the way with 27 points for the Maroons.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Lexi Seabaugh with 17 points.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg finished out the evening with a 55-43 win over Cumberland.

The Hatchets held a 28-21 halftime lead then had a 17-9 third period run.

Ella Kinkelaar led the way for the winners with 19 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of six at the line. Also in double figures was Ellie Wittenberg with 14.

Cumberland was led by Katelyn Shoemaker with 13 points on six field goals, one from three-point range.

The tournament continues Friday with four games each at the high school and junior high school and will finish out with the finals Saturday.
