Effingham Sacred Heart and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City spilt junior high boys basketball victories Monday evening.

CHBC was a 45-37 winner in the seventh-grade contest. CHBC held an 18-12 halftime lead. The Shamrocks came back with a 13-9 third quarter to pull within 27-25 going into the final period. But CHBC came back with an 18-12 run to pull out the victory.

Davis led the way for CHBC with 16 points while Pope added 15.

Sacred Heart was led by Gabe Traub with 17 points.

In the eighth-grade game, Sacred Heart was a 44-36 winner. The two teams played to a 10-10 opening quarter tie. CHBC moved ahead 21-15 at halftime. The Shamrocks then went on a 16-2 third quarter tear and held on for the win.

Owen Schuette led the way with 19 points while Nash Wernsing added 12.

CHBC was led by Vaughn with 11 and Rauch with 10.

Sacred Heart is back in action today hosting Sigel St. Michael.

At Cowden

At Greenville

Greenville hosted Altamont and sent the visitors home with two losses Monday evening.

Greenville handily won the seventh-grade game, 52-15, zipping out to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and never looking back.

Altamont was led by Xavier Logue with seven points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Greenville edged out to a 10-7 opening quarter lead and led 22-9 at halftime and 32-15 going into the final quarter.

Altamont was led by Cage and Woods with nine points each.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Windsor in both games Monday evening.

Eight players scored as Stew-Stras was a 35-21 winner.

Stew-Stras ran off to an 11-2 opening quarter lead and led 19-4 at halftime.

Weston Friese led the way with 11 points as the team improved to 4-4 overall.

Windsor was led by Hartman with 10.

In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras held a 15-13 halftime lead then had a 22-16 second half.

Eli Jones led the winners with 17 points. Stew-Stras improved to 6-3 on the season.

Windsor was led by Owen with 19 points.

At Toledo

Cumberland was a winner in the seventh-grade game while Dieterich captured the eighth-grade contest Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade matchup, the host squad was a 36-16 winner. Cumberland held a 5-0 opening quarter lead and led 13-5 at halftime.

Cumberland was led by Walker with 14 points. Carlen and Duvall tallied eight each.

Dieterich was led by Goeckner with five points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Dieterich claimed a 38-17 victory. Dieterich whipped out to a 12-2 opening quarter lead and led 23-8 at halftime.

Dieterich was led by Bryce Bohnhoff with 10 points. 

Cumberland was led by Malone with five points.

At St. Elmo

North Clay (Louisville) came calling and captured both victories Monday evening.

North Clay won the seventh-grade contest, 46-39. St. Elmo/Brownstown edged out to a 7-5 opening quarter lead but North Clay broke loose with a 20-9 second quarter to lead 25-16 at halftime.

SEB had an 18-4 third period to lead 34-29 but North Clay came back with a 17-5 final quarter to pull out the victory.

Cooper Lewis led the way with 27 points for the winners.

SEB was led by Stufflebeam with 13.

In eighth-grade action, North Clay won 49-37. SEB stepped out to an 18-11 opening quarter lead but North Clay edged ahead 26-25 at halftime.

North Clay then had a 15-7 third period and a 10-5 final quarter.

Grant Probst led the winners with 17 points while Cooper Lewis added 11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by E Wehrle, K. Tompkins and J. Gillespie with nine each.

Jasper County was as winner in both games over Casey-Westfield Monday evening.

Jasper County captured the seventh-grade contest, 33-28. Casey-Westfield held a 14-6 halftime lead but Jasper County had a 27-14 second half for the win.

Cambell Ulm tallied nine to lead the winners. Jacob Ferguson led in rebounds and Cashe Kistner was the top defender.

In the eighth-grade game, Jasper County won 33-24.

Jasper County held a 14-12 halftime lead then had an 8-4 third quarter run.

Chance Mulvey tallied 12 for the winners. Jarrell Bierman was the top defensive player and Mack Huber the top rebounder.

Jasper County is 5-1 in both seventh- and eighth-grade play.
