Effingham St. Anthony hosted Greenville and Salem in seventh- and eighth-grade shootouts Saturday.

 

In seventh-grade action, the Bullpups won over Greenville, 46-19. St. Anthony held a 26-8 halftime lead.

Blake Verdeyen tallied 13 points while Charlie Bierman scored 11 and Liam McAllaster 10 for St. Anthony.

In the second contest, St. Anthony came out a 43-20 winner. The Bullpups held a 19-4 opening quarter lead and led 34-6 at halftime.

Verdeyen scored 17 points to lead the way while Hoene added 10. The Bullpups now sport a 9-1 record.

In the eighth-grade games, St. Anthony downed Greenville, 45-33.

The Bullpups led 13-8 after the opening quarter but Greenville came back to move ahead 16-15 at halftime. St. Anthony then came out with a 20-11 third quarter run as Conner Storm went to work, hitting two regular baskets, a three-pointer and a free throw for eight and Johnny Gannaway added seven on a three-pointer, a regular basket and two free throws.

The Bulldogs finished out with a 10-6 final quarter for the win. Gannaway led the way with 14 points while C. Storm added 12.

St. Anthony then defeated Salem, 40-29. The Bullpups trailed 18-16 at halftime then had a 10-7 third quarter to move ahead by a point and finished out strong with a 14-4 final period.

Cooper Sehy tallied 16 while C. Storm added 13 and Gannaway 10. St. Anthony is now 6-2 on the season.

At Ramsey

Altamont competed in the Ramsey Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament during the weekend.

 

Altamont fell to Mulberry Grove, 32-28.

Altamont led 6-4 after the opening quarter but Mulberry Grove moved into a 16-12 halftime lead. The two teams played even in the second half.

Xavier Logue led Altamont with 13 points while Lyndon Bannister added eight.

Altamont then dropped a 39-23 loss to Ramsey.

Ramsey held a 20-6 opening half lead and had a 12-6 third quarter run.

Altamont was led by Bannister with 13 points and Logue with eight.
