CASEY -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City advanced in the Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Girls Basketball Regional from Saturday action.

CHBC was a 36-16 winner over Edwards County (Albion). 

In the second contest, Effingham St. Anthony saw its season come to a close against host Casey-Westfield, 34-18.

Casey-Westfield edged out to a 7-2 opening quarter lead and led 20-8 at halftime. The Bullpups had an 8-4 third period but Casey-Westfield came back with a 10-2 final quarter.

Cheyenne Barker and Carly Budde led the way for the Bullpups with eight points each.

CHBC advances to face topseeded Paris Crestwood tonight at 6 followed by Casey-Westfield meeting Stewardson-Strasburg at 7:15.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham's season came to a close at its own Class 8-4A Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs fell to third-seeded Rochester, 31-21. Rochester edged out to a 6-4 opening quarter lead and led 14-10 at halftime.

Rochester then put on a 13-3 third quarter run. Effingham came back with an 8-4 final period but it was too little, too late.

Effingham was led by Emery Spicer with 10 points and Keagyn Koenig with nine.

In the other games Saturday, Stephen Decatur edged Mattoon, 27-25 and  Taylorville pounded Charleston, 47-13.

Stephen Decatur advances to meet top-seeded Mount Zion at 6 p.m. today while Taylorville and Rochester square off at 7:30.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Class 8-3A Cumberland Regional

Teutopolis easily handled Lawrenceville Parkview in the Cumberland Regional Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes won, 50-17. T-town held a 9-5 opening quarter lead then went on a 13-2 second period run and finished out with a 28-10 second half.

Avery Probst scored 17 points while Ella Willenborg tallied 12 in the victory. The Shoes improved to 15-6 on the season.

In other games Saturday, Robinson Nuttalll defeated Cumberland, 32-26 and Jasper County won over Marshall, 36-9.

Teutopolis will now face Jasper County at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday while Paris Mayo takes on Robinson Nuttall at 6.

Class 8-3A Cumberland Regional

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael

Mulberry Grove and Ramsey were opening round winners in the Sigel St. Michael Regional  Saturday.

Mulberry Grove, seeded fifth, upset fourth-seeded Neoga, 43-11.

The second game went to third-seeded Ramsey over sixth-seeded Mattoon St. John's, 25-11.

Mulberry Grove will now face top-seeded Sigel St. Michael at 6 p.m. today followed by Ramsey taking on second-seeded Pocahontas at 7:15.

 

Class 8-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

South Central tallied a 23-9 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo at the Edwards County Regional Saturday.

In the second game, Edwards County won over Dieterich, 41-22.

South Central, seeded fourth, advances to face No. 1 seeded North Clay (Louisville) at 5 p.m. today followed by second-seeded Altamont against Edwards County at 7.
