Area Boys Teams Ready For Tournament Play Next Week

Get ready basketball fans. Next week there are boys basketball tournaments all around the area.

There are six tournaments hosting area schools.

Check out the Effingham St. Anthony Turkey Tournament at the Enlow Center. In Pool A are St. Anthony, Rantoul, Belleville East and Effingham. In Pool B are Mattoon, Champaign Central, Robinson and Breese Central.

The tournament runs Monday, Nov. 20, Tuesday, Nov. 21, Wednesday, Nov. 22, Friday, Nov. 24 and finishes out Saturday, Nov. 25.

In the openers Monday, Breese Central meets Champaign Central at 5 p.m. and St. Anthony takes on Rantoul at 6:30. Effingham begins play Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Belleville East.

Cumberland plays host to a Thanksgiving Tournament with eight teams competing.

Area teams include Newton, North Clay (Louisville), Cumberland and Dieterich. Also entered are Vandalia, Casey-Westfield, Okaw Valley and Marshall.

The tournament opens Tuesday, Nov. 21 and will run Friday, Nov. 24 and finish out Saturday, Nov. 25.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will be the lone area squad at the Cerro Gordo/Bement Turkey Tournament which will be held Nov. 21, 21, 22, 24 and 25.

In Pool A are Champaign St. Thomas More, University High and Unity Christian. In Pool B are Shelbyville, Cerro Gordo/Bement and Windsor/Stew-Stras. Pool C members are Tri-Valley, Arthur Christian and Argenta-Oreana. And Pool D members are Warrensburg-Latham, LeRoy and Heritage.

Windsor/Stew-Stras opens play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Shelbyville in the junior high gym.

Neoga will be hosting the Mary Sur Thanksgiving Tournament Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25.

Along with Neoga will be Georgetown-Ridge Farm, Cisne and Sullivan. The four teams will play a round robin.

Neoga meets Georgetown-Ridge Farm at 12:30 p.m. in the North Gym Friday.

St. Elmo/Brownstown, South Central and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will take part in the Mulberry Grove Tournament.

In Pool A are St. Elmo/Brownstown, Mount Olive, Mulberry Grove and Ramsey. In Pool B are CHBC, South Central, Father McGivney and Lebanon.

The tournament runs Monday, Nov. 20,  Tuesday, Nov. 21, Wednesday, Nov. 22, Friday, Nov. 24 and finishes out Saturday, Nov. 25.

South Central opens Monday against Father McGivney at 5:15 p.m. St. Elmo/Brownstown also opens play Monday against Ramsey at 6:45.

CHBC takes on Father McGivney at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Teutopolis will be taking part in the Capital Classic at Red Hill (Bridgeport) and Lawrenceville.

Also entered are Red Hill, Olney, Salem, Mount Carmel, Vincenens, Lawrenceville and Fairfield.

The meet begins Friday, Nov. 24 and will end Saturday, Nov. 25.

T-town will play at the Red Hill Site against Salem at 12:30 p.m. Friday then face Olney at 7:30 p.m. In Saturday play, T-town meets Red Hill at 10 a.m.
