Girls Basketball Teams Set For Tourney Play

High school girls basketball teams began regular season play this week and will head into Thanksgiving tournament play next week.

The lone team starting a tourney this week is Teutopolis who will be competing in the Centralia Tournament Thursday and Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes will meet Breese Mater Dei today at 6 p.m. and will play two games Saturday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Bob Kerans Thanksgiving Tournament will begin Monday. Entered this year are Effingham, Altamont, Newton and Flora. The squads will play a round robin tourney.

Games will be held Monday, Nov. 20, Wednesday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 24. Effingham and Altamont meet in the opener Monday at 6 p.m. with Newton and Flora squaring off at 7:30.

Effingham St. Anthony will be competing in the Robinson Thanksgiving Tournament along with host Robinson, Mount Carmel, Fairfield and Marshall.

The tournament will be held Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. The Bulldogs willl meet Mount Carmel at 10:30 a.m. Friday in their opener and face Marshall at 3 p.m.

Six area squads will be competing in the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tournament which begins Tuesday, Nov. 21 and plays Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25.

In Pool A are North Clay (Louisville), Cumberland, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Red Hill (Bridgeport). In Pool B are Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Dieterich and Ramsey.

Competition will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Mary Sur Thanksgiving Tournament will be held Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25. 

Enterted are Neoga, Effingham junior varsity, Arthur Christian and Georgetown-Ridge Farm. The tourney is a round robin where all four teams will square off against each other.

In the openers, Neoga meets Georgetown-Ridge Farm at 11 a.m. in the North Gym and Effingham JV takes on Arthur Christian, also at 11, in the South Gym.
