Effingham Junior High School edged North Clay (Louisville) in both seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball action Monday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 15-13. North Clay held a 3-0 opening quarter lead and led 9-2 at halftime. Effingham pulled within 11-6 in the third period and then had a 9-2 final quarter run to claim the victory.

Abby Johnson led EJHS with eight points.

North Clay was led by M. Compton with nine.

In the eighth-grade game, the Mustangs tallied a 28-24 victory. EJHS led 14-9 at halftime but North Clay pulled within 22-20 going into the final quarter. Effingham then had a 6-4 run for the four-point win.

Keagyn Koenig led the Mustangs with 14 points.

North Clay was led by Zink with 12.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg was a 36-6 winner in eighth-grade competition Monday.

Stew-Stras ripped out to an 11-0 lead on Okaw Valley and led 19-0 at halftime.

Edie Wittenberg led the way with 16 points while Jackie Vonderheide added six.

The team improved to 11-4 on the seaon.

At Dieterich

Jasper County handed Dieterich two losses in Monday play.

Jasper County edged Dieterich 14-11 in seventh-grade action.. Dieterich was led by Kensi Stortzum with six points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County won 41-10. Payton Higgins led Dieterich with six points.
