St. Michael Wins NTC Eighth-Grade Tourney, Junior Girls Basketball -- Oct. 27-28

Sigel St. Michael won the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament.
BEECHER CITY -- Sigel St. Michael won the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Sharpshooters downed Stewardson-Strasburg for the title, 36-23.
St. Michael took a 23-13 halftime lead then had a 13-10 second half for the win. Kaelyn Ordner led the way with 17 points while Ballinger added eight.
Stew-Stras was led by Karly Wetherell with 11.
Third place went to North Clay (Louisville) over Altamont, 30-21. North Clay stepped out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead but Altamont came back to pull within 19-14 at halftime. North Clay then had an 11-4 third quarter.
Price led the winners with 10 points. Altamont was led by Long with 12.
Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed the consolation championship by beating South Central, 22-12.
BSE took an 11-5 halftime lead then had an 11-7 second half.
BSE was led by Barker with seven points and Savannah Mason with six.
South Central was led by Peddicord with three.
In Friday action, South Central defeated Neoga, 34-17 to move into the consy championship. South Central tore out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back.
Two players hit double figures for the winners. Brown finished with 15 while Hiestand added 12.
Neoga was led by Chloe Frankie with five points.
In the second contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 24-21.
CHBC held a 10-7 opening half lead and still led 18-13 heading into the final quarter. BSE mounted a comeback with an 11-3 run to pull out the victory.
Koonce scored nine and Barker eight while Sierra Mason added seven for the winners.
CHBC was led by Carissa Wakefield with eight points.

At Effingham
Teutopolis was a winner over Effingham in Saturday action.
The Wooden Shoes downed the Mustangs, 43-6 in the seventh-grade game. T-town held EJHS scoreless in the opening quarter for a 13-0 lead.
The Shoes were led by Maggie Drees with 10 points.
Effingham was led by Abby Johnson, Sophie Niebrugge and Laynee Pankau with two points each.
In the eighth-grade contest, T-town broke a 2-2 opening quarter tie with a 20-0 second period and went on for a 40-16 win.
Willenborg and Avery Probst led the way with nine points each for the Shoes.
Nora Cekander, Alaina Miller and Emery Spicer had four points each for Effingham.
