BEECHER CITY -- Sigel St. Michael and Stewardson-Strasburg advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

St. Michael tallied a 38-9 victory over Altamont.

The Sharpshooters ran off to a 16-2 opening quarter lead and led 28-2 at halftime.

Ballinger led the way for St. Michael with 14 points while Will added 10.

Altamont was led by Kuenstler with four points.

Stewardson-Strasburg then edged North Clay (Louisville), 25-21.

North Clay held a 7-3 opening quarter lead but Stew-Stras came back with a 10-0 run to lead 13-7 at halftime.

Once again North Clay had a 10-5 third period to pull within 18-17 going into the final quarter. Stew-Stras then put the contest away with a 7-4 run.

Jackie Vonderheide led the way with 10 points while Edie Wittenberg added eight.

North Clay was led by Zink with nine points.

St. Mchael and Stew-Stras will square off for the championship Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Altamont and North Clay meet for third place at 10:15.

Tonight's contests include Neoga against South Central at 6 p.m. followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:15. The winners advance to the consolation championship Saturday at 9 a.m.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Effingham St. Anthony Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes ripped out to a 19-1 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Maggie Drees led the way with 13 points while Lexi Hoene and Lily Tegeler had seven each as the Shoes improved to 14-0 on the season.

St. Anthony was led by Bella Schultz with three points.

In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 32-12 winner.

The Shoes were consistent, scoring eight points in each quarter. Avery Probst led the way with 12 points while Abby Kocher added six.

T-town is now 10-4 on the season.

St. Anthony was led by Cheyenne Barker with six points.
