BEECHER CITY -- Neoga and Altamont opened the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament with victories Tuesday evening.

Neoga handed Dieterich a 23-13 loss in the opener. Neoga stepped out to a 15-2 opening half lead.

Seven players scored in the game with the highest point total coming from A. Fitzpatrick with four.

Dieterich was led by Allison Boerngen with seven points.

In the second contest, Altamont was a 24-12 winner over South Central.

Altamont took a14-3 halftime lead. Kuenstler tallied 10 for the winners.

South Central was led by Brown with seven.

Neoga advances to face top-seeded Sigel St. Michael at 5:30 p.m. today while Altamont advances to a Thursday 6 p.m. contest against the winner of the St. Michael vs. Neoga game.

The second contest tonight will feature Stewardson-Strasburg against Brownstown/St. elmo at 6:45 p.m. while North Clay meets Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 8 to finish out the evening.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony tallied two victories over Flora in girls junior high basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest 16-7. Flora edged out to a 2-0 first quarter lead but St. Anthony came back with a 14-0 run over the next two quarters and won 16-7.

Sylvia Semple tallied six points to lead St. Anthony.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony was a 15-11 winner. Flora again took the first quarter lead 4-2 but the Bullpups came back with a 4-0 second quarter. St. Anthony kept the pressure on in the second half for the win.

Carly Budde led the way with six points.

At Effingham

The Effingham seventh-grade team fell to Paris Crestwood, 34-17 in Tuesday action.

Crestwood edged out to a 6-4 opening quarter lead and led 14-9 at halftime.

The Mustangs could never get back on track. leading the way for Effingham was Abby Johnson with six points.

Effingham eighth-grade lost 40-19. No other stats were reported.

Teutopolis tallied two wins over Richland County (Olney) Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game easily 20-5 to improve to 13-0.

Maggie Drees led the way for the Shoes with seven points while Grace Martin added six.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town held a 14-13 lead going into the final quarter then had a 9-4 run.

Avery Probst led the way with 13 points while Taylor McMahon added seven as the Shoes improved to 9-4.

At Teutopolis

Jasper County claimed a victory Tuesday evening in the LEIC Tournament.

The team will be back in action Thursday at 7:20 p.m. against Paris Mayo.
