(THE 2022-2023 ALTAMONT INDIANS)

The Altamont Indians' history-making season came to an end Friday night with a 72-68 four-overtime loss to the Tuscola Warriors in the championship game of the Altamont 1A Sectional Tournament.

The game was heard on Classic Hits 979XFM.

Altamont got out of the gate in great shape and led 17-6 after one quarter, and extended the lead to 27-13 at halftime.

Tuscola exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Indians 19-6 to pull within 33-32 heading for the final period...of regulation, that is.

The Warriors outpointed Altamont 14-13 in the fourth quarter to send the game to extras tied at 46-46.

It was 4-4 in the first overtime period to make it 50-50, 7-7 in the second extra frame to make it 57-57, and 6-6 in the third overtime to leave the game tied at 63-63 heading to the fourth extra period. Tuscola finally got the edge 9-5 to pull out the four-point win.

Tuscola shot 39% from the field, 22 of 57, including 11 of 27 threes. Altamont made 23 of 62 shots, 37%, including 4 of 18 threes. The Indians made 18 of 29 free throws to 16 of 23 for Tuscola. Altamont had a razor-thin 40-30 rebounding edge, and turned the ball over 16 times to 17 for Tuscola.

Mason Robinson scored 25 points to lead Altamont, and also grabbed 15 rebounds. Also for Altamont: Dillan Elam 15, Avery Jahraus 12, Jared Hammer 8, Kaidyn Miller 4, and Eric Kollmann and Eli Miller 2 each.

Jordan Quinn scored 33 points to lead Tuscola, which improved to 29-6.

Altamont closes out one of the greatest, if not the greatest, seasons in school history with a 29-5 record. Two of those five losses were to Tuscola. The Indians say goodbye to seniors Mason Robinson, Jared Hammer, Wyatt Phillips, Avery Jahraus, Logan Cornett, Kienon Eirhart and Eric Kollmann.
