Wooden Shoes Advance To 2A Sectional Final

NEWTON -- Teutopolis High School made short work of Alton Marquette in the Class 2A Sectional semifinal boys basketball contest at Newton Tuesday evening by a 54-28 count..

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 15-2 opening quarter lead as Caleb Siemer connected on three baskets for six points and Joey Niebrugge hit a basket and two free throws for four.

Brendan Niebrugge, who only attempted one shot in the opening quarter, went to work in the second period. Niebrugge hit three trifectas and three regular baskets for 15 of the team's 19 points.  Meanwhile, on the defensive end, the Shoes held Alton Marquette to only one basket, a three-pointer by Dre Davis. The Shoes led 34-5.

The Explorers had a 15-10 third quarter run but still trailed by a 44-20 margin.

T-town then finished with a 10-8 final quarter as Siemer connected on a basket and four free throws. The Shoes were a perfect nine of nine at the line.

Siemer led the way for the Shoes with 20 points on eight of 11 from the field and four of four at the line. He also finished in double figures in rebounds with 14.

B. Niebrugge chipped in with 17 points on seven of 11 from the field and three of six from the line.

T-town hit 48.8 percent from the field and was 100 percent at the line.

Alton Marquette shot 29.2 percent from the field, 28.9 percent at the line and finished with a 21-13 record.

The Shoes advance to the championship game with a 26-7 mark and will take on Lawrenceville at 7 p.m. Friday.

Class 3A Centralia Sectional

Troy Triad tallied a win over Mount Vernon, 51-34 in Wednesday evening action at the Centralia Sectional.

The winner advances to meet East St. Louis Friday at 7 p.m. for the sectional championship.
