Several area teams advanced and others saw their seasons end as Class 1A rboys basketball egionals got underway Saturday.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Altamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown were opening round winners in the Nokomis Regional.

Top-seeded Altamont easily handled No. 16 Mulberry Grove, 84-28.

The Indians ripped out to a 26-9 opening quarter lead as Wyatt Phillips connected on two three-pointers and two free throws for eight points and Jared Hammer and Avery Jahraus added a three-pointer each.

The lead stood at 50-12 at halftime. Eric Kollmann went on an eight-point tear with four baskets.

Then in the third quarter, Altamont had a 23-7 run with Phillips again on a three-point run with three of them for nine points.

Phillips led the way for Altamont with five three-pointers and three of four at the line for 18 points. Kienon Eirhart added 11 points and Avery Jahraus finished with 10.

Altamont had 12 three-pointers in the game led by Phillips with five and Davis with three. Four other players connected for a three-pointer each.

The Indians improved to 26-4 on the season.

Carlyle downed Edinburg, 62-30 and Nokomis won over Ramsey, 67-29.

In the fourth game, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Patoka Co-op, 64-29.

The Eagles stepped out to a 14-3 opening quarter lead and led 36-14 at halftime. SEB went on for a 28-15 second half.

Jarrett Pasley connected on six field goals, two of those three-pointers and was nine of 11 at the line for 23 points to lead SEB. Cade Schaub added 15 and Adam Atwood 11. 

Schaub led in rebounds with nine, assists with four and had one blocked shot. Atwood had three steals.

SEB connected on 47 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free throw line with 18 of 24. Pasley hit nine of 11.

The Eagles improved to 20-11 on the season.

Altamont will meet Carlyle Wednesday at 6 p.m. while St. Elmo/Brownstown will take on Nokomis at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Neoga and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg were the two area teams advancing after first round play in the Cumberland Regional Saturday.

Neoga handed Martinsville a 57-48 loss. The Bluestreaks took the 8-6 opening quarter lead on Neoga and held that two-point lead at halftime, 20-18.

But the Indians started a comeback with a 14-12 third quarter run to knot the score at 32-32. Quintin Richards hit a three-pointer and two regular baskets for seven in the quarter while Brady Reynolds connected on a three-pointer.

Then in the final period, Neoga kept the momentum going with a 25-14 run for the 11-point win. Reynolds hit a basket and was six of six at the line for eight points while Richards hit two baskets and two free throws for six. Bryar Hennesay chipped in with five.

Reynolds scored 16 to lead the way for Neoga on four field goals that included three trifectas and five of six at the line. Richards chipped in with 15 and Trey Sheehan added 10.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 58-44 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

WSS, seeded third, edged out to an 11-7 lead on No. 11 CHBC. The Hatchets led 25-17 at halftime then had a 33-27 second half.

Austin Wittenberg led the way for the winners with 21 points on six field goals and seven of nine at the line. Jordan Wittenberg added 10.

The Hatchets are now 22-9 on the season.

CHBC was led by Clayton Wojcik with 11 points and AJ Radloff with 10. The Bobcats finished the season with a 9-21 record.

The Pirates of Cumberland fell to Macon Meridian, 48-40. 

The No. 5 seed, trailed Macon Meridian 7-6 after the opening quarter but came back with a 16-10 second period to lead 22-17 at halfitme.

Meridian then had a 15-10 third quarter run to tie the contest at 32-32 going into the final perod.

Meridian went on a 16-8 tear for the eight point win. Eight of those points came from the free throw line.

Cumberland was led by Jaxon Boldt and Maddox McElravy with 11 points each and Gavin Hendrix with 10.

In the other game in the regional, Casey-Westfield won over Moweaqua Central A&M, 67-35.

Casey-Westfield and Neoga square off at 6 p.m. Wednesday while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Macon Meridian meet at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7.

Class 1A South Central Regional

Effingham St. Anthony and North Clay (Louisville) came out the local winners in the South Central Regional.

In game one, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran downed Red Hill (Bridgeport), 68-31.

South Central fell to Cisne, 61-59 on a last second shot.

The Cougars took a 14-11 opening quarter lead behind seven points by Rahkeim Anderson. Ethan Watwood connected on a three-pointer.

In the second quarter, the Cougars had a 20-14 run behind Aidan Dodson's nine points and two more three-pointers by Watwood to lead 34-25.

Cisne came back with a 19-18 third period to pull wthin 52-44.

And the final quarter was a nightmare for South Central. Cisne had a 17-7 run behind Harrell's three-pointer and four of four at the line. Cooper Bowen then hit an 18-footer with 1.3 seconds left that was the game-winner.

Dodson tallied 21 points for South Central on seven field goals, one a three-pointer and six of nine at the line. Watwood added 13 and Anderson 11. The Cougars end the season with a 21-11 record.

No. 3 St. Anthony tallied a 74-40 win over No. 12 Sandoval.

The Bulldogs ran off to a 28-4 opening quarter lead and it was just a matter of time and final winning margin for the Bulldogs.

Collin Westendorf got the Bulldogs on a roll, scoring 10 points while six other players scored in the quarter. Westendorf hit two three-pointers and two regular baskets.

In the second period, St. Anthony had a slight 22-21 edge to lead 50-25 at halftime. Westendorf added two three-pointers to his total.

St. Anthony then had an 18-13 third period behind six points by Ryan Schmidt.

Four players connected for double figures. Westendorf led the way with seven field goals, four of those three-pointers, for 18. Brock Fearday added 14, Schmidt 12 and Max Koenig 11.

North Clay, seeded fifth, handed No. 9 Dieterich a 63-52 loss.

Dieterich ran out to a 23-18 opening quarter ead as Caleb Gephart scored 10 points and Cole Will eight.

The Cardinals then came back with a slight 14-10 second period to pull within 33-32 . Logan Fleener connected for six points and Alex Boose added a three-pointer.

North Clay then went on a 20-13 third period run as Levi Smith and Fleener hit six points each on three regular baskets while Cody Zimdars added six points on two three-pointers.

The Cardnals had an 11-6 final period to pull out the 11-point win. Fleener added five more points and finished with 24 in the contest. Fleener hit 10 field goals, one a three-pointer and was three of six at the line.

Boose added 12 points and Zimdars and Smith had nine each.

Dieterich was led by Lucas Westendorf with 20 points on seven field goals, four from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Gephart added 13 and C. Will 10.
