St. Anthony, SEB, Dieterich Finish Regular Season With Wins

Effingham St. Anthony High School celebrated Senior Night in fine fashion by downing Casey-Westfield, 66-50 Friday evening.

Brock Fearday got the Bulldogs off in the right direction with nine points in the opening quarter as St. Anthony held a 17-9 lead.

But Casey-Westfield came back with a slight 12-11 second period run to pull within 28-21 at halftime.

After halftime, the Bulldogs got revved up once again and went on a 23-12 tear. This time Collin Westendorf took over, scoring 11 points on four baskets and two of two at the line. B. Fearday chipped in with seven.

Although the Warriors came back in the final period, the Bulldogs claimed its 19th win of the season.

Leading the way in scoring were Westendorf with eight field goals, two from three-point range, and six of seven at the line for 24 points. Fearday chipped in with 18 and Max Koenig added 10. The Bulldogs finished strong from the free throw line with 16 of 18.

The Bulldogs finished regular season action with a 19-11 record.

In junior varsity play, St. Anthony was a 67-30 winner. Leading the way in scoring were Nick Ruholl with 15 and Henry Brent with 10.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown broke an 11-11 opening quarter tie with a 20-4 second period run and finished out with a 54-46 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday evening.

With the victory, the Eagles ended as the Egyptian-Illini Conference champions with a 5-0 record.

Three players finished with double figures for the winners. Cade Schaub led the way with 13 points while Caleb Campbell added 12 and Jarrett Pasley 11.

The Eagles hit 41 percent from the field and 50 percent at the free throw line. Campbell led the Eagles in rebounds with eight and had four steals. Adam Atwood led in steals with five and had five assists. Schaub blocked two shots.

CHBC was led by Gage Lorton with 14 points, Clayton Wojcik with 12 and Kaidyn Calame with 11. Wojcik had a double-double with his 12 points and he pulled down 10 rebounds. Lorton and Wojcik had three steals each.

SEB improved to 19-11 on the season.

At Dieterich

Dieterich didn't let Patoka even get started Friday evening. The Movin' Maroons went on a 27-6 tear in the opening quarter and finished with a 75-35 victory.

Five players scored in that opening quarter run with Garrett Niebrugge and Cole Will scoring exactly the same with seven points, both with a regular field goal, a three-pointer and two of two at the line.

Although the scoring slowed down in the second quarter, Dieterich led 40-17 at halftime.

The Maroons then revved up again with a 23-15 third quarter. This time around, Kolton Kidd scored seven while Niebrugge added six.

Four players hit double digits for the Maroons. C. Will led the way with 18 while Niebrugge added 15, Kolton Kidd 14 and Lucas Westendorf 12.

Dieterich connected on nine three-pointers led by C. Will with three and Niebrugge and Westendorf with two each.
