Altamont, Dieterich, T-town, C'land Win, EHS Loses In Boys Action

STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took the opening quarter lead but it was Altamont the rest of the way in a 62-42 National Trail Conference boys basketball win Thursday evening.

The victory gave the Indians the National Trail Conference regular season title with an 8-0 record.

The Hatchets edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead behind Austin Wittenberg's seven points and five by Jordan Wittenberg.

Mason Robinson kept the Indians close with eight of his team's 12 points.

Then in the second period, Altamont went on a 13-4 run to lead 25-18 at halftime. Robinson continued on with eight points while Avery Jahraus connected on a three-pointer.

The Indians had an 18-11 third quarter as four players scored, threes, Jared Hammer, Dillan Elam and Kienon Eirhart connected on a three-pointer each.

J. Wittenberg scored six while A. Wittenberg provided the other five points for the Hatchets.

Altamont finished out with a 19-13 final quarter run.

Two players hit double figures for Altamont. Robinson led the way with eight field goals and five of eight at the line for 21 points while Elam added 11.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by A. Wittenberg with 18 on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven of 11 at the line. J. Wittenberg chipped in with 16.

Altamont is now 25-4 on the season.

At Dieterich

Dieterich captured a 79-50 victory over Grayville in non-conference action Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons took a 19-16 opening quarter lead behind Caleb Gephart's nine points.

Lucas Westendorf took over with 11 points in the second quarter as Dieterich held a 40-36 lead at halftime.

Dieterich then put the game away with a 21-8 third quarter. Again, Gephart went on a run, hitting two three-pointers, two regular baskets and two free throws for 12 points.

Gephart finished with 27 on 11 field goals, three of those trifectas, and two of two at the line.

Also in double figures were Westendorf with 19 and Garrett Niebrugge and Cole Will with 10 each. Dieterich had nine three-pointers led by Westendorf with six.

At Teutopolis

With a 13-2 opening quarter lead, Teutopolis went on to down Richland County, 53-23 Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes held a 31-9 halftime lead and had a 16-5 third quarter.

James Niebrugge connected on 10 two-pointers to lead the Wooden Shoes with 20 points. Also in double figures was Brendan Niebrugge with 16.

The two high-scoring Niebrugges led in rebounds with seven each, along with Caleb Siemer. Siemer also had seven assists.

T-town is now 23-7 on the season.

At Teuotpolis

At Arthur

Cumberland came away with a 70-55 win over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Thursday.

The Pirates ran off to a 19-4 opening quarter lead and Gavin Hendrix connected on five two-pointers for 10 in the quarter.

The Pirates held a 30-17 halftime lead and led 45-33 going into the final period.

Four players hit double digits for the winners. Hendrix led the way with 11 field goals and two of three at the line for 24 points. Trevin Magee tallied 12 while Maddox McElravy added 11 and Jaxon Boldt 10.

At Mount Zion

Effingham traveled to meet Apollo Conference foe Mount Zion and fell to the Braves, 67-43 Thursday evening.

The Braves edged out to an 18-13 opening quarter lead. Andrew Donaldson knocked in a three-pointer for the Hearts and Garrett Wolfe added four points.

Moutn Zion held a 35-24 halftime lead then had a 19-9 third quarter run and left the Hearts behind for the win.

EHS had two players score in double figures. Andrew Splechter led the way with six field goals and two of two at the line for 15 points. He connected on one three-pointer. Donaldson chipped in with 13.
