Dieterich To Play For 7-2A State Championship

Dieterich opened its stay at the tourney with a 46-42 win over Aurora Christian.
Dieterich moved into a 12-7 opening quarter lead and led by that same five-point margin at halftime, 24-19.
Dieterich then had a 15-13 third quarter before Aurora Christian came back with a 10-7 final period but fell short.
Two players hit double digits for the winners. Ben Schottman led the way with 15 points on five field goals that included two three-pointers, and was three of four at the line. Alex Schottman finished with 14 points.
In other opening round games, Peoria St. Philomena defeated Roanoke-Benson, 39-25; Mount Sterling Brown County easily handled Decatur Montessori Academy for Peace, 59-27 and Kincaid South Fork downed Colfax Ridgeview, 38-28.
Dieterich then moved into the semifinals and faced Kincaid South Fork and tallied a 47-45 win.
Dieterich again took an opening quarter 9-8 lead and led 17-14 at halftime. Dieterich had a 14-7 third period run and moved ahead 31-21 going into the final period.
But Kincaid South Fork put on a furious 16-6 rally to tie the score, sending the contest into overtime.
In the overtime period, Dieterich pulled out the win with a 10-8 tally.
Bryce Bohnhoff stepped up with 20 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of six at the line. Also in double figures was B. Schottman with 15.
In the other game, Peoria St. Philomena won over Mt. Sterling Brown County, 36-33.
Dieterich (25-2) will now meet Peoria St. Philomena (23-4) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the state championship. Mt. Sterling Brown County (28-1) squares off against Kincaid South Fork (24-5) at 6 p.m. for third place.

Class 7-1A State Tournament
Newton St. Thomas fell in the opening round play of the Class 7-1A State Tournament at East Peoria Central Junior High School Saturday.
Lincoln West Lincoln Broadwell downed St. Thomas, 46-24.
St .Thomas held a 10-6 opening quarter lead but Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell came back with a 19-2 second quarter and never looked back.
St. Thomas was led by Quincy Fulton with 18 points on seven field goals and four of seven at the line.
St. Thomas finished with a 20-6 record.
In other first round games, Royal Prairieview Ogden defeated Springfield Christ the King, 30-26; Pana Sacred Heart won over Pontiac St. Mary's, 38-24 and Peoria St. Jude downed Ottawa Marquette, 47-12.
In the semifinals, Pana Sacred Heart beat Royal Prairieview Ogden, 34-29 and Peoria St. Jude won over Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell, 40-20.
Pana Sacred Heart will meet Peoria St. Jude at 7:30 p.m Thursday for the state championship while Royal Prairieview Ogden takes on Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell at 6 for third place.

Class 7-3A State Tournament
Teutopolis fell in opening round play at the Class 7-3A State Tournament at El Paso-Gridley High School Saturday.
South Holland McKinley took a 12-7 opening quarter lead but T-town held the squad scoreless in the second quarter to pull within 12-11 at halftime. South Holland then had an 18-5 second half for the 30-16 victory.
Eric Weidner led T-town with five points on two field goals and one of two at the line.
"Our effort was there, we just couldn't throw the ball in the ocean," said T-town Coach Doug Smith.
T-town fnished the season with a 26-3 record.
In other first round games, Quincy St. Peter won over Crest Hill Richland, 33-25; Metamora beat Monticello, 50-27 and Avon Abingdon Avon edged Girard North Mac, 18-17.
In the semifinals, Metamora downed Quincy St. Peter, 52-23 and South Holland McKinley beat Avon Abingdon Avon, 45-32.
The third place contest will feature Quincy St. Peter against Avon Abingdon Avon at 6 p.m. Thursday while lthe championship will have Metamora against South Holland McKinley at 7:30.
